Trans Musicales 2011: The DiS Preview
So then, later this week, while you’re tucked up in bed, starting threads about seminal powerviolence records or whatever you do at 3am on a Thursday morning, it is worth considering DiS, who will be embarking upon a bleary-eyed pilgrimage to England’s capital, via Megabus. Yes! Fortunately, the second leg of this journey reaches literally aircraft hanger-sized proportions, encompassing the Channel Tunnel, eventual arrival at Trans Musicales’ big aircraft hanger venue, and some sort of guest reception where, I am assured, there awaits a hearty combination of wine, warm hospitality and fancy local cheese. Huzzah!»
Semibreve Festival 2011: The DiS Review
Photo by Adriano Ferreira Borges The small northern Portuguese city of Braga prides itself on having a hundred ways to prepare cod; it also seems to have at least one church for each recipe. Locals are quick to tell you about their football stadium, a th»
Fourche à Foin: DiS en Pitchfork Music Festival, Paris
Walking into Grande Halle de la Villette - past a gigantic neon Pitchfork Music Festival sign which over-looks a courtyard with a big impressive fountain - first impressions are over-awing. Pitchfork haven’t got some tiny theatre turned into a music venue but a huge enormo-barn, purpose-built for music... or possibly for housing a family of blue whales. As the lights dim, what looks like 5,000 people are gazing at the stage...»
Iceland Airwaves 2011 - The DiS review
There is just something about Iceland. In reality it is not one single thing but a combination of them, from the people, the weather, the city of Reykjavík and, above all, all of these distilled in a few days in the middle of October that make up the annual Airwaves festival. Although 2011's edition was marked by several performances of Björk's Biophilia at the resplendelty and long-awaited Harpa Music Hall, it's quite arguably not what Airwaves is about. That said, every festival is helped by a "marquee" performance or two and Sinead O'Connor made an appearance, too.»
Treasure Island Music Festival 2011 - The DiS Review
Five Years ago, San Francisco did not have a music festival to call its own. Now it has two. While the larger event, Outside Lands, sells many more tickets every summer to those who wish only to pass out in the psychedelic haze of Golden Gate Park to art»

Green Man Festival 2011 - The DiS Review
O festival season what ails ye? Why does this fractured summer of 2011 choose to raise its ire with the likes of Truck, Supernormal and the Big Chill? Aye there’s the saturation point, the tough times of the economy, the rising ticket prices; but these were festivals that had dug their own niche, the ones that were presumed solid on the basis that they were doing things “their own way.” The piles of un-stubbed tickets that are left lying in the printers are a metaphor for the festival season, so many would have you believe, ever more available but many fewer taken upon. Thank God for Green Man then...»

DiS in Australia: Splendour In The Grass 2011
Festival season is generally fraught with tales of calamity or serious incidents (these usually include Field Day and on rare occasion, an actual Zoo Thousand) and sad postponements or cancellations – as in Offset, Beacons and Truck this year. Festivals»
Øya 2011, Norway - The DiS review Part II
After a superb, mostly sunny and varied Wednesday and Thursday at Oslo's Middelalderparken, our attentions turned to the final two days. Tired, worn down but not exhausted there was even more to come. Looking at the program, it could have been overwhelming, especially if you had feet the state of mine at this point. But in reality you can't do anything else but open the sun-baked festival with massively open arms.»
