The Melbourne-based makers of the swarming synth-pop masterpiece In Ghost Colours, have finished work on their third longplayer.
In a blog posting on the once-popular website MySpace, Cut Copy sayeth: “as we imagine what hell freezing over feels like and winter descends on our makeshift warehouse studio on the outskirts of Melbourne, we're pleased to announce that the recording for Cut//Copy album three is now complete! We'll be mixing it with Ben Allen as soon as we finish the [forthcoming] shows.”
Speaking to P4K Cut Copy's Dan Whitford revealed their sound might change a little:
“It was a much more open-ended process where we just sort of went off on these more jam-y tangents where we'd just sit there and play stuff for ten minutes and see what happened... I was obsessed with Fleetwood Mac's Tusk while working on this record.... Also, Talking Heads, Slave to the Rhythm by Grace Jones and Malcolm McLaren's Duck Rock album. And a lot of acid house era, post-rave indie music like Happy Mondays and Primal Scream.”
However, don't get too excited as a few reports suggest (or at least repeat the suggestion) that the record might not be out until early doors 2011. In the meantime, here's a little documentary/teaser video of the band in the studio making lots of noize:
And here's a little reminder of how great they is IMHO:
