Muse talk to DiS about homecoming gig + win tickets!

DiS caught up with Muse to discuss their special comeback show in their hometown of Teignmouth, which takes place this coming Friday and Saturday (see below for details of how to WIN tickets to this sold out gig!).

"Playing in Teignmouth is going to be amazing, we're all really looking forward to it," beams Muse drummer Dominic Howard and he explains why they're all looking forward to it so much:

"It's honestly something we've always wanted to do since the day that I met Matt at The Den (pictured above). It's not a park, it's just like a big piece of grass. That's where I met Matt [Bellamy] for the first time. I remember even in those early days talking to Matt and saying things like 'wouldn't be great to play a proper gig on here with shitloads of people!'

It's certainly something we've thought about and talked about over the years. We looked into doing it before but not as hard as we did this time. I guess we were more motivated this time, partly because it's the 10 year anniversary from when the first album (Showbiz) came out. I don't think we've played in Teignmouth for nearly 12 years. There's not really any venues there but back then we just played at a shit pub which has since been knocked down and turned into an old people's home, unfortunately.

I moved to London about 12 years ago but I go back from time to time as I have family down there and Chris still lives there. When we were there the other night we went down the pub and saw a bunch of old faces we hadn't seen for about sixteen years.

There will be lots of people there we know or used to know, lots of friends and family. We probably won't get time to see everyone but we'll be looking for them in the crowd. It's going to be great. 10,000 people a night, which in Teignmouth is like the whole town coming down the seafront for one night. They're shutting all the roads and it's going to be a complete Muse lock-down, which for us is quite funny. All our family are laughing about it as Chris has been on the cover of the local paper and he's been getting involved in the council meeting that had to take place to approve the gig.

I think it's going to be really emotional, it's going to really mean a lot. I mean, it's a lovely little town and I think we'll spend a lot of time reflecting, taking stock, thinking about growing up and all the places we've been and here we are now, so it's going to be nostalgic.

We haven't played in Devon for a very long time, so we're really excited. We're really in to causing a scene down there and for us to play in our hometown it's really important that it has an impact. There are two Teignmouth bands down supporting us which Chris is quite friendly with called Hey Molly and The Quails. I don't really know much about them but Chris likes them. We're going to get two more local bands too, so it'll be four local acts opening for us in total."

While Dom paused for breath, we asked him some questions about the live show (here he revealed to DiS that Muse have floating cube-related craziness planned) and about the forthcoming album, the answers to which you can read on DiS nearer to the record's release.

So, if haven't got a ticket to the above show, we suspect you now want to go more than ever? Well, DiS has procured a pair of tickets to give away and all you need to do is tell us in the comments section below the name of Muse's forthcoming album and why you should win the tickets. Points will be awarded for originality and we'll pick our favourite before the close on business on Wednesday 2nd September 2009.

me!

my fiancé will be away for the weekend. he'll go and build an earth school in Dorset. So what if I go and see an amazing band in Devon? That sounds fair enough to me.

I ought to win

The album is called The Resistance and I ought to win because I've been helping a friend to fit a Korg Kaoss pedal into his guitar in a similar vein to Matt Bellamy's and having gone to all the effort I ought to at least get to hear the original...

Mike

The Resistance

I was brought up in Newton Abbot, just down the road from Teignmouth. I used to go and see Muse loads as a kid in the puds around Torquay and Exeter. I have a couple of set-lists they played around 2 years prior to Showbiz. I remember Matt offering me a lift home after one of their Cavern gigs. My parents were always late. It'd be pretty awesome and nostalgic to see them again in Devon. Would be a good excuse to go home and see the folks too.

Muse Teignmouth Tickets

I'm flying from China to the UK to be Best Man at a mate's wedding on Saturday. He would be extremely annoyed if I won a ticket to see my absolute favourite band on the same day. That said, it would be the toughest decision of my life!

Album: The Resistance

The name of the album is The Resistance

I like going to see music. Who are Muse?

Muse Teignmouth tickets

Album: The Resistance

My mum really wanted to go see muse with me this year and she gave the tickets she managed to get to see muse at Liverpool to my friends instead which left her out, i'd like to suprise her with this otherwise she probably won't end up seeing muse with me. Neither of us have seen them live before and muse are my favorite band and she loves them too. I'd like to share my fantastic first experience of seeing them live with her.

It's called The Resistance

And if I do go it would be a bit 'Unintended', but it would be 'Bliss', and I certainly would be 'Feeling Good'. A night of 'Hyper Music' in the 'City Of Delusion' otherwise known as Teignmouth would be enough to give me a bout of 'Hysteria'. I could carry on like this 'Endlessly', but 'Time Is Running Out' so I think I had best 'Take A Bow'. I know this entire gimmick is a bit ('Map of the) Problematique', but it was either that or write a 'Soldier's Poem' describing how much I want those tickets. So, Muse tickets? 'Yes Please'! And sorry for the 'Hullabaloo (Soundtrack)'!

Album is 'The Resistance'

And I grew up in a village over the hill from Teignmouth (Stokeingteignhead). Havent seen Muse in a while but they have been one of my favourite bands since I have had favourite bands. Also my oldest and best friend still lives there and is also a big Muse fan, and it would be amazing to go back home and see them with him - especially on the seafront in Teignmouth!

Want my game back

The Album is the Resistance.I used to share the school bus with Matt and i leant him my copy of lemmings for the Amiga and never got it back!He owes me init

"the resistance"

i have cancer and am going to die in 3 months and i deserve the tickets because i'll be dead by the time muse tour again.

'the resistance'

pick me because my girlfriend is currently at the top of Centre Point at a private listening to the album organised by the bands' label and I think getting tickets to this might edge it and make me better than her.

The answer is The Resistance

Why do I want to go? Well, someone needs to witness Bellamy get abducted by alien lizards in their UFO...

Answer: The Resistance

A long time ago, there were two rival factions: The Cult (simply called so, without any relation to the sanctuary selling post-punkers), and the British-American Society of Traditional and Reggae Drummers (or B.A.S.T.A.R.D for short). The Cult were the guardians of the self-playing guitar, whilst B.A.S.T.A.R.D were charged with looking after the self-playing drum kit. However, when B.A.S.T.A.R.D. accidentally gave away their secrets to Jean-Michel Jarre in the 1970s, they became jealous of The Cult’s legacy. After many attempts to procure the instrument themselves, B.A.S.T.A.R.D poisoned the members of The Cult and hid the instrument where no-one would ever think to look – in the guitar case of pentatonic rock god Matt Bellamy. However, one member of The Cult, myself, avoiding the poisoning and has set his sights on recovering the instrument during the gig at Teignmouth before legions of mediocre guitar players unjustly enter into the same stratosphere that Matt Bellamy currently occupies.

The Resistance

I should win those tickets because the 2000km separating me from Teignmouth would be the ultimate test of my unconditional love for Muse.

The New Album is Named The Resistance

I think I should win the tickets because after following muse since 2001 when origin of symmetry came out, I would really like the opertunity to see them live since I missed out on the eden gig in cornwall as I was on holiday and they never play down here in the south west very often at all.
Thank you

The Resistance

I should win because I probably can't go, thereby negating all jealousy that would otherwise befall the winning DiSer.

the resistance

Me and our lass are on holidays in cornwalls and would be able to go and we also have a babysitter for young Bob Swin!

The Resistance!

I'd love to win the tickets as I have followed MUSE since 1999. I saw them work their way through the support circuit and on their first headline tour. I then saw them on various tours all the way up to the Wembley stadium gig. What makes this even more amazing is that I am actually a Devonshire cream tea and travel to each gig on the back of a Cornish pasty who picks me up on the way to the gig (the pasty likes Muse but prefers Oasis... meat'n'two veg music if you ask me, but there ya go... it takes all sorts!) Anyway, MUSE are the band of choice for all Devon pastry goods... the cream of the crop and jam hot (in the words of Noel Fielding... will he be there at the gig?)

The Resistance

Hi! I'm Carl Chinn. I don't know who Muse are, but Teignmouth looks like a lovely place to visit, and I bloody love trains.

The Resistance At The End Of The Universe

Did Douglas Adams invent Muse? He most certainly did, they're called Disaster Area. Only thing left for Muse to do at gigs now is send a small ship into the heart of the sun to create a special light show. Is that a reason for me to win? Probably not, but it's a damned good comparison to make.

I want to go because I realise that 'Paradise comes at a price, That I am not prepared to pay' or more accurately my mate isn't. She's broke* 'And won't accept gifts from me' (ok enough Megalomania). So come on DiS and sort us out with some tickets!

The Resistance!

Album name: The Resistance

This is why I deserve- no, NEED to win. I am a member of the Australian faction of Muse's Resistance. In order to complete my mission for my country, and see Muse live while in the UK for 6 weeks on a medical placement, I MUST win tickets and complete the circuit of unity and collaboration forged between Melbourne, Australia, Drowned in Sound and Matt, Dom and Chris. The mission will only be achieved once I am able to reach Teignmouth, for which I will require concert passes. Please heed my request.

and for the record, yes I am aussie, and yes I am in the UK right now and won't require transport to Devon should I be lucky enough to win.

fear great doom for The Resistance in Australia (a beautiful country, like England) should this mission fail.

The Resistance

Got made redundant couple of weeks ago. Simply couldn't afford tickets for me and me girl at the time. F**ing Gutted. Not very original I know but gotta live with the cards that your dealt.

Win Muse tickets.

fuck I'm late.

the resistance

who won? guess the mission has been aborted my end :(

Teignmouth looks nothing like that.

it's a shit hole.
