Damien Rice won the Shortlist Music Prize for Artistic Achievement this weekend. The ceremony, held in Los Angeles, is comparable with the Mercury Music Prize in the UK.
The Irish singer-songwriter fought off stiff competition; other nominees included The Streets, The Black Keys and Interpol.
Eight of the nominated acts performed at the ceremony, which will be screened on US MTV on October 25th.
A panel of 'listmakers', including Dan The Automator, highly-respected for his production work for artists including DJ Shadow and for his own Handsome Boy Modelling School project, chose Rice as the overall winner.
