Portastatic the side project of Mac McCaughan of Superchunk have written a score for a Canadian film.
The score for the film 'Looking for Leonard' , directed by Steve Clark and Matthew Bissonnette, has finally been finished after two years. McCaughan told the official Portastatic website that: "It's great that the film is finally done, and I'm happy to have been asked to do the music. The album was recorded in a couple studios in Chapel Hill, including the one in my house. Brian Paulson helped record some of the stuff, and mixed it with me. The music is all instrumental, and the original ideas came from reading the script, watching rough cuts of the movie, and talking to the filmmakers about what ideas they had for certain scenes, the personalities of certain characters, etc. It was kind of a relief to make an entire record without having to worry about writing lyrics or singing them. Anyway, the album Looking for Leonard comes out in May, on Merge of course."
He also mentions a "collaborative album involving Portastatic and Mr. Robert Pollard of Guided By Voices. I've been working on the music, and Bob will add his distinctive lyrics and throaty roar to the mix when he has a break from the other 62 albums he is working on at any given moment."
