For anyone who doesn't know, 'Desert Sessions' is a Josh Homme curated party in the middle of nowhere (a desert to be precise - dur!) with loads of instruments and members of the rock hall of fame making often disturbing, off-kilter, bluesed up, broken down and put back together again, slightly chilled, demented chanting, psychadelica, stoner rock.
But the point Mr.Homme puts perfectly talking to MTV: "I think bands want to play together, and it's primarily for that. I think it's cool that it comes out and people review it and that's good, but the main reason is, 'Do you remember why you started playing?' "
According to the reports Josh and a cast of PJ Harvey, Twiggy (formally of Marilyn Mansons troop) and Dean Ween. Plus rock beast Nick Oliveri will be joining Josh, just for a change. And there's bound to be others wandering out of the wood-work nearer the release. We'd guess it'll be out on Rekords Rekords in the summer, probably coinciding with QOTSA playing Reading/Leeds
Also the film 'Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys' is to feature some QOTSA/Audioslave members on the soundtrack (because they don't think they're busy enough at the moment or something) where Jodie Foster is "a one legged nun and the kids hate her. They really can't stand her. They turn into superhero guys and grind her up."
Oliveri's side project Mondo Generator (as seen in tiny secret Camden gigs last summer) is meant to have a second album nearly finished too.
Oh, and Josh has reportedly done a track with UNKLE - but Lavelle'll have anyone won't he?
DiScuss: Do you think QOTSA will be supporting Metallica or headlining a day? What's your favourite Desert Session? Who's James Lavelle going to work with next? Bono?
