We've all done it. Alone in the bedroom. Slip a cassette in the stereo. Prepare in front of the mirror. Strap it on or just pick it up and stroke it. Responsive to every single touch. The feel. The rush. The energy. Then wild gesticulations in mid-air. Head bangingly pleasing, Oh! The wrist action as the speed increases to the mind-bendingly beautiful solo. And then the power and fury of the climax. The roar of pleasure. The blinding light. Fingers trembling as sweat runs off the brow...YES! The time has come for you to go head to head with the best of them...
The UK championships began back in 1995 when 23 drunken loons at the Lift Club, Brighton thought it'd be funny to jump around the room emulating their favourite rock guitar moves, sans guitar.
Over the years the Championships have condensed much of Rock's energy, wanton-ness and outrageousness and with a democratic access to the stage all kinds of people - with no other ability except the courage - can take the stage and be a Rock Star for 3 minutes.
In 1998/1999 The UK championships emerged screaming from a long underground labour into a lost ballroom [as documented in Loaded circa 1999] after which it 'really kicked off'. Subsequent years have seen all kinds of media coverage.
So, here's what to do: Get yourself down to the Lift Club in Brighton this Sunday 4th August and prepare yourself a nice 3 minute number for the cheering masses. Getting completely hammered beforehand is optional.
