Jarvis Cocker has come up with some superb lyrics, hasn't he? Some baffling, yes, but many inspired. Indeed, in their reporting of the news that his lyrics will be published (where we found out about this...) Pitchfork label Cocker "one of the all-time great rock lyricists." That may very well be true. Who are we to disagree?
The news is that, kinda like when The Guardian did their anthology of greatest lyricists of all time with those little booklets a few years ago, Faber & Faber will publish the words of Pulp's main man (via The Quietus). It's called Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics and will be to lyrical publishing what that Christopher Hitchens anthology was to contrarianism.
It comes out in October, but in the meantime watch a video of him discussing his lyrics in great depth. It is better than the time he appeared on Question Time, by the way.
