Blood Red Shoes, Ruby Suns, Rolo Tomassi, Mount Kimbie and more for DiS' stage at The Great Escape
sean by Sean Adams April 15th, 2010

DiS returns to Brighton. With bands we really like. For the Great Escape 2010.

It's only four weeks away! We're very excited to announce the line-up for the Drowned in Sound stage at The Great Escape. Previous years have seen the likes of Laura Marling, Crystal Castles, Metric, Idlewild and Gallows amongst others play on our hand-picked bills.

This year, we've delivered a mixture of brooding expansiveness and blistering abrasive-rock. You'll find us on Thurs and Friday night at Revenge ("The South Coasts No.1 Gay Club" according to their website - looks amazing from the photos we've seen!) and on Saturday we'll be elsewhere running a clubnight. Here's what we've got lined up for you....

Thursday

Blood Red Shoes
The grunge-dunked duo who once released a single via DiS Records and whose second album Fire Like This is an absolute triumph, headline their hometown.

Japandroids
Much-loved by DiS readers and staff. "Blearily honest fuzz rock with a hazy nu-gaze corona is essentially what’s on the menu." is how Andrzej Lukowski described them in his review of Post-Nothing.

The Ruby Suns
These hipster-hippie New Zealanders make a swirling and flickering whirlpool of psychedelia, indie-rock and sunset-friendly pop. Fight Softly (Review) is one of the albums of the year so far and so say a lot of you.

An Emerald City
One of the funnest bits of putting together a festival bill for Great Escape is the list of acts we're presented with who're coming over to the UK for their first ever shows. This lot are also from New Zealand and seem to have found an immense gap in the Fuck Buttons, Holy Fuck and 65DaysofStatic school of throbbing post post-rock, yet throw in sitars, lutes and violins. Have a listen: myspace.com/anemeraldcity.

Friday

Rolo Tomassi
Ridiculous riffs. Pterodactyl roars. Liars-like sprawls. These fire and bleep-stone Sheffieldians need little introduction to the average DiSser. We're really excited to see what their forthcoming album _ Cosmology_ (produced by Diplo, out next week, etc) is like live.

Mount Kimbie
Godspeed You Black Emperor + Mogwai x Dubstep = Mount Kimbie.

Team Ghost
We love anything that can be described as Eno-esque. We also adore M83, so we're excited that Team Ghost, the new band formed by M83 co-founder Nicolas Fromageau, will be hopping over from Paris to play for us.

Masks
A local-ish duo who meander between rhythmic electronics and bowel-bothering noises.

DiS is also throwing a club night on the Saturday night but details for that will be announced nearer the time. For tickets, more info and wot-not visit escapegreat.com. See you in Brighton?

P.S. If you don't know all of the above acts, here's a selection of vids and audio tracks to fill in any holes...
