Wavves lead-fella Nathan Williams has apologised for his on-stage near, if not actual, breakdown at Primavera festival this weekend.
According to reports, the band spent much of their set on Thursday bickering, bawling and fighting with each other and Williams was just sort of listlessly and aimlessly strumming his guitar for large chunks of it. Projectiles were thrown both by the band, and at the band.
See Toby Price's pic (above) of Williams looking less than OK.
Anyway, in a post on his Ghost Ramp blog Williams wrote the following:
Primavera/Europe
I think in the back of my head I knew I wasn't exactly mentally healthy enough to continue to tour the way I have been since February. Honest truth is this has all happened so fast and I feel like the weight of it has been building for months now with what seems like a never ending touring and press schedule which includes absolutely zero time to myself. I'm sorry to everyone who has put effort into this and to everyone who supported me. Mixing ecstasy valium and xanax before having to play in front of thousands of people was one of the more poor decisions I've made(duh) and I realize my drinking has been a problem now for a good period of time. Nothing else I can do but apologize to everyone that has been affected by my poor decision making. I made a mistake. Not the first mistake I've made and it for sure wont be the last. I'm human. Don't know why I chose the biggest platform I could imagine to loose my shit, but that's life. You live and you learn.
That blog post has since been taken down for reasons unknown - intriguing, eh? - but the link above is a Google cached version.
The band then cancelled their set the following day in Lisbon. Friday's Spanish show and today's Porto date have also been chopped. The status of the rest of the tour - some 28 dates and 6 weeks - is unconfirmed.
UPDATE - Wavves' entire UK tour has been pulled; in a brief statement Nathan Williams said:
I'm sorry to everyone who has put effort into this and to everyone who supported me.
Were you there when the Primavera meltdown happened? Do you have any more information on what occurred? Did you recognise what songs they actually played?
DiS, of course, went to Primavera to sample the Catalonian delights. Stay tuned for our in-depth review and photos of the event.

Would the lead singer of Dragonforce have a mental on stage? No.
Read into that what you will...
what
a loser
^ Great eye
It's such a good photo
surprised at the levels of abuse coming his way. he fucked up, he's obviously not entirely well, leave the guy be. at least he didn't chuck a guitar at people's heads
i only managed to catch
..the last 2 songs of their set as i was busy enjoying Aphex Twin too much to remember that Wavves had been playing for a while.
From what i saw was 2 tracks which didnt sound perfect soundwise before the drummer threw his drumkit and his sticks and stormed off. For which Nathan Williams was shouting at the drummer to come back etc. Obviously at the time i wasnt sure what was going on but they didnt look like they were getting along at all. Still it was something worth mentioning to my friends who were still watching Aphex Twin when i got back to the Rockdelux stage. Reading these articles this evening is bringing the story together slightly now.
nah
he's a complete prick.
Yeah Alan Sparhawk did
Kind of negates the point when you tell people to lay off one guy then have a go at another person for also having mental issues to sort out.
I was there,
I thought he was just putting it on. Sounded good to me, ie. just like the records. Played all the good songs, So Bored went off. Probably a shit bloke though.
nah
having spent around both, at least people like alan are aware of, and doing their best to manage their selves. the wavves guy was being a total dick, quite clearly self-medicating and not being responsible at all. theres a difference between the two.
I arrived from The Horrors just in time to see this
I was mystified as to what was happening at the time. I thought the soundman had pulled the plug as he was out of time.
I'm sorry for the guy, I hope he gets help.
sparhawk could have killed someone. i'm just putting it in perspective
ha
If you can't stand the heat, get out the kitchen, cos someone else will take your Primavera set and actually play to the crowd instead of acting like a pissy spoilt 12 year old. Check the youtube video, it's pathetic..
i fucking hate Wavves
I also hate Jesus, but at least he had a lasting mark
there's another one...
just behind the one in the middle
who is this guy?
hasn't he done this kind of thing before? someone ought to tell him that he's only in a band called wavves who only five people have ever heard of.
