Help us interview Super Furry Animals: your questions wanted
- Artists:
- Super Furry Animals »
If somebody was to go to the trouble of compiling a list of DiS readers' favourite bands, we're guessing Welsh psych-pop geniuses Super Furry Animals would be high up the collective census - and rightly so, 'cos they're ace.
That's why, dear readers, we're giving YOU the chance to put your questions to the band when we meet up with them this coming Friday (November 16).
Of course, that doesn't give you much time so get those thinking caps on and post your questions below.
We'll take the best ones and pose them to the band - but, a bit like a box of chocolates, we don't know who we're going to get so be sure to make them non-member specific. Off you go!

DiScuss: So this 'Glastonbury' thing, eh..?
I didn't pick up Gryff's empty crisp packet
at Glastonbury, despite standing right next to it. Would it have given me special powers?
Dear SFA
How long can Gryff stay inside that Power Rangers helmet, really? Does he have a record? My friend has a Stormtrooper helmet and sometimes he wears it for the whole Eastenders omnibus.
Dear SFA
Gruff isn't actually singing when he's wearing the helmet, is he? Or IS he?? And if he's not singing, doesn't he get bored?
Also, I've seen you live 6 times now, which one was best?
To the SFA
I once took mushrooms in Bethesda in the knowledge that you lot may have done the same. They made me believe I was Morph from that programme with slightly creepy, potential peado artist Tony Hart that I forget the name of. With that in mind, which frightening kid's TV icon have you believed you've become under the influence of narcotics?
Dear SFA
do you think it's a bit of a cop out when interviewers just bring along a load of other people's questions (like this), or does it make a nice change to being asked the same questions you always get asked by the same interviewers? p.s. when will the mythical SFA rave album get a proper release?
Question for Bunf
the beard. why?
Dear SFA
Just how much of a twat IS George Lamb?
^yes
dear SFA, if you were to pit the Tank and the Yetis in a battle, who do you think would win?
ps
are you working a even longer live version of The Man Don't Give A Fuck for a 3 hour wig-out on new years eve?
oh and the correct question was
how much of a sucker is George lamb?
*gets coat*
Ask some questions that don't involve tanks, techno albums, or album art!
1. What happened to the more improvisational moments in your live sets, such as the Krautrock-inspired outro to "Mountain People"?
2. Gruff stated the new album was going to be "speaker blowing," but it's not. What happened?
3. Some critics and fans think SFA are becoming predictable with age. Some call it maturation; others call it diminishing returns. Have SFA intentionally gone from being less predictable to more predictable because of their age?
4. Do SFA ever plan on releasing an album that's as massive in scope as Rings Around the World? Clearly, that was their most elaborate production.
Very good questions
I wish they'd bring Mountain People back to their live sets.
SFA
So some other people heard the George Lamb "interview" when SFA went into the hub on 6. I too would like to know SFA's feelings about this horrid man... and hear hear for getting mountain people back into the set.
To Gruff
Is it true there's a year of your life you can't remember at all cause you were a bit out of it?
Dear Gryff
Can you get Sonic boom to join the Super furries? I'd reckon he'd be an ace addition.
Dear SFA,
Would you be so kind as to do your bit for your nation and headline Sunday night at Green Man? (but only announce it after those who were going to buy tickets anyway get them, so as not to cause a rush too soon. Ta!)
Dear Rob Webb
stop being lazy and write your own questions.
not really a question, but
when you played keep the cosmic trigger happy in oxford it was one of the highlights of my life.
(i just feel they should know that...)
I've always wondered
How much would I have to save up to get SFA to re-record Rings Around the World with some decent production?
What can Gryff see from inside the Power Ranger helmet?
bf
Then my question to them is:
'Gryff, do you think it is big and/or clever to abandon the former plasticy encasement of your processed potato snacks once you have satisfied your wanton snack lust?'
bf
oh, non member specific. Hmm.
'Superfurryanimal,do you think it is big and/or clever to abandon the former plasticy encasement of your processed potato snacks once you have satisfied your wanton snack lust? I don't, and I'm assuming you don't either, so if a member of your combo were to perform said atrocity, would death a/ Be a sweet relief b/ Come on swift wings or c/ Both of the above'
Bass Bombs
At one point during the Roundhouse, the Lighthouse seemed to emit a couple of bass booms so deep that it loosened my hair follicles and I voided my bowels. Can I sue?
Why
did you stop doing DVD editions of your albums?
Songwriting duties
I have a copy of the infamous 'lost' SFA techno album by Cian, listening to it you can reconise songs that have later been adapted into 'proper' SFA songs. So my question is, who is the lead songwriterin the band,if there is one, and if not how do they write their songs as it seems they all have different personalities that are relected in the songs (see Love Kraft). Also being that they all have side projects (gruff solo, acid casuals, the peth, neon neon etc) how do they decide which is a SFA song and which would suit their other projects.
Also I have seen them live nearly 20 times, can they set up a loyality card system like tescos.
Q
You've been going for quite a while now - how have you managed to stay together and keep it fresh for yourselves?
Dear Bob Saull
stop being lazy and... give me a question to ask them.
dear sfa
when awaking in the morning do you put your socks of trousers on first?
dear SFA
can you name any famous slovenians?
Dear SFA
Given your recent return to an indie label after a successful period on a major, where do you feel most comfortable? Obviously the money available to a major label band has been an advantage, and enabled you to spend more on recording, touring and promotion, but as Mwng showed, you don't need that money to create great music. Also, as a band with such a varied back catalogue, what's your personal favourite SFA moment?
I'm probably too late...
Dear SFA,
As masters of the audio, you have eluded being pigeon-holed into one particular genre (e.g. indie psychedelic pop-punk techno-folk).
So my question is: if you were to live your lives again and choose to become masters of another sense, what would it be and how would you describe your genre of it?
