The Verve expect to headline Glastonbury

The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft has ridiculed the idea that his band might not headline Glastonbury next summer.
When the question of the slot was put to him by XFM, Ashcroft replied simply: “I think it would be a travesty if we didn’t”.
The rumour has been given weight by the appearance of Emily Eavis, the festival’s co-organiser, at one of the band’s reunion shows at the Camden Roundhouse last week.
“We’re one of the few bands that can jam without sounding like Lynyrd Skynyrd on a bad night,” Ashcroft helpfully explained before indulging that laddish whim for platitude: “so we can actually take people on a proper journey, rock n roll wise.”
Michael Eavis, the boss of the festival, recently revealed that the three Pyramid Stage headliners would be drawn from a pool of seven.
The frontman clearly hopes his band is one of those contenders; placing himself alongside the likes of Muse, Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead, REM, Led Zeppelin and Kylie Minogue on the gossip pages.

DiS meets Okkervil River's Will Sheff (Part One)
dear michael,
please dont let them headline (or play)
It'll be a trip
Whatever you think of them, they'd be great. You have to think of singing along, pissed on pear cider and stoned off your tits. In that sense it would be sound!
Get Spingsteen on the Friday
and Led Zep on the Sat.
swap 1. with dylan
and 2. with the rolling stones.
and let artic monkeys play again
sounds like my idea of hell.
and i dont even think they're that bad
Boo
So what do you do when the main band is on at Glasto - sit on a picnic blanket at the back?
if we're in dream land
I say Dylan on friday, radiohead on saturday and Led Zepp on Sun. I could then die a happy man on monday.
i say have the verve headline
then i dont have to worry so much about not going ;)
This would be proper crap.
A waste of a big slot. REM, Radiohead and Led Zep would be awesome. Or if they put the verve or someone equally as sh!t on lets have Bjork again or PJ Harvey as headliners on the other stage.
it'll be more like
the verve on friday
kaiser chiefs on sat
kylie on sunday
I saw the Verve 2 weeks ago and they were amazing
There's just no pleasing some people tho, I'd rather someone like them than a flavor of the month who aren't all that good live
I quite like(d) the verve...
...But why they'd be picked as glastonbury headliners is beyond me. Suede only get about halfway up the bill whenever they play and they had more than 2 decent albums!
Tellingly, the only person who thinks it'd be a traversty if they didn't headline is Ricky. Although Eavis is not beyond bizarre decisions. In his twisted logic he probably thinks that the verve headlining + hike in ticket prices + putting on more phone lines = more 16 years old turning up.
EYARR
WOTS WIV ALL DEEZ VERVE H8-RS?? LOLS??!?!?
OMFG??!
I'm so unbelievably
underwhelmed at the news that these boring tosspots are headlining Glasto.
Will they be peddling their pretentious noodle-jams or will the dirge-infested pious acoustic ballads. Who cares.
It's an insult that this year, the 20th anniversary of George Best, the Wedding Present haven't been asked to headline... (oh dear, I was doing so well)
Haha Ashcroft
No.
I reckon it will be Radiohead on friday, Led Zep or Springsteen Saturday, Kylie Sunday. Mmmhmm.
^
This. One of the best things I've heard is 'Gravity Grave' from when they last played Glastonbury.
I, too would like to headline.
something has to give....
yikes..
I, too, would like to headline.
I would also like to headline.
either of these but not the original one what i writ.
...
What a pompous twat!
why pompous?
interviewer: do you feel the verve could headline?
ashcroft: it would be a traversty if we didnt
(sat with his mates and band mates in a pub most probably)
people should be encouraged for ambition, hes a rock star
my brain
is trying to escape from my head for me even thinking about thinking about thinking about imagining partying on down to the v...
the v...
nope. can't even say it.
