Seminal South Bronx troupe ESG will play their last ever show next Friday in Chicago.
The band, currently comprised of the four original Scroggins sisters plus two of their own offspring, will close three decades of sparse art-funk sass on September 21st at the windy city's Abbey Pub.
The core quartet of Renee, Valerie, Marie and Deborah were unable to play a scheduled performance at Vice's Jackalope festival in Norfolk this August. It now seems this would've been their UK swansong.
"It's been a long career," frontwoman Renee Scroggins told Pitchfork.
"We were able to play a good 30 years in the business. I'm just really tired right now. We love our fans, and we appreciate 30 years of support."
ESG leave behind a weighty legacy - so weighty it'd be better if you clicked here than if we wore away our fingertips extolling their sheer coolness to you. Cool?
