First new Stooges album for 3 decades set for release

Punk n' roll legends The Stooges are to release their first new material in 33 years in the form of new album The Weirdness. The band played two heavily-attended sets at this weekend's All Tomorrow's Parties Nightmare Before Christmas event.
With a release date pencilled in for the 20th March 2007, most of the recording has already been done with uber-producer Steve Albini at the helm.
Track titles for the record include:
'Trollin'
'Greedy Awful People'
'Claustrophobia'
'Mexican Guy'
'I'm Fried'
'ATM'
'O Solo Mio'
'She Took My Money'
'End Of Christianity'
The band retains three quarters of the original 1967 line-up, as well as original sax player Steve Mackay. Iggy Pop's face was recently reported to be more than 60% leather, though this has yet to be confirmed by official sources.
- Hindsight: Swervedriver and shoegaze reassessed
- The Stooges are robbed; appeal for information
- Iggy and the Stooges headlining Get Loaded in the Park 2008
- Talking 'bout my reformation: in defence of Don't Look Back
- Babyscrambles: Doherty mobs Pop
- That Glasto line-up in full...
- Motorhead and more for Meltdown; tickets on sale this week
- Sonic Youth, JAMC, Beasties and Bjork confirmed for Electric Picnic
absolutely one of the most pointless albums ever to be made
oh grow up James jewel osterberg. And stop scaring me with that face.
:-|
this will be a terrible terrible album!
this is pretty much the worst idea ever
Albini or no Albini, Jack White or no Jack White.
Worse even than the Pixies new album.
But I still hold out some hope.
Did they play any
new stuff at ATP?
Could, COULD be interesting (and perhaps good even) with Mike Watt & Albini involved. Has Albini produced any duff records?
bush
razorblade suitcase. some would argue that the page/plant record was gash.
shut up already
Its their fucking band, let them do what they want. They don't answer to you, thank fucking god.
atp stooges
they played a new song at atp and it sounded great
really enjoyable set too
...because that's not a real Stooges record.
It's Iggy And The Stooges.</pedant>
Mike Watt is also playing bass on the new Kelly Clarkson album.
I knew someone would say that
it's only a different guitarist. Plus it's one of the best records ever made.
'Fun House' is the better album.
Factotum.
that's so wrong
you're dead to me
Wise guy eh?
I really held out hope that a few of you, maybe even half, would make Three Stooges puns or quotes. But nothing! Absolutely nada! Shame, DIS-folk, shame.
You're wrong
Everyone knows Funhouse is their best.
that wasn't really an Albini effort.
It was like In Utero. Albini produced it - then the label got some geezer in to master/edit/whatever-they-wanted-to-call-it the production to make it sound as MOR as possible. And they insisted that the big single (Swallowed) be completely produced by somebody else.
I read/heard an interview with Albini in which he talked about how doing In Utero and Razorblade Suitcase served as reminders of how major labels screw artists over. He also said that he thought the Razorblade Suitcase and In Utero he produced were both much better, and much closer to the bands' intentions, than the final, released CD.
If those labels had half a brain they'd release retrospective Albini mixes of those albums...
...
The chances of this sucking are pretty high seeing as how Iggy hasn't made even a half decent album since the Idiot. I will still buy it though, the Stooges geek that I am.
for some unknown reason
there was a report about this on the 'showbiz gossip' section of our godawful local radio stations news programme thos afternoon. what the hell was it doing there!? most odd.
