We apologise for the lack of Spotifriday action last week but none of us were in 'the office'. All away on 'work', you see. This week's one has been slightly delayed due to some ill-advised overnight election festivities, but here it is now, which is all that matters.
Click here to give it a spin.
1. Deftones - 'Sextape'
This record sure has been long awaited. And the verdict is that it has been WELL worth waiting for. Excited about it? Yeah, we are too. Anyway, you can read our 8/10 review of the new Deftones record, Diamond Eyes, by clicking here.
2. 65daysofstatic - 'Piano Fights'
Hopefully you will have noticed that it's been 65daysofstatic week on Drowned in Sound. There's been enough content from it, including this particular wonder which is titled A Video Feast. Yeah. This one's taken from their new and current record, We Were Exploding Anyway.
3. School of Seven Bells - 'Face To Face On High Places'
We like this lot. Which is just as well because they announced the official release date of their new album this week, as well as making available a free download. That was called 'Babelonia' but this one is named 'Face To Face On High Places' which, I have found out, is not a good thing to listen to with a fuzzy head.
4. The National - 'Bloodbuzz Ohio'
This, on the other hand, works fairly well as Matt Berninger's soothing tones um...soothe. That's not to mention the slow-creeping backing to his deep proclamations. The band played The Royal Albert Hall yesterday and the Electric Ballroom the day before. I think it was a triumph.
5. Foals - 'This Orient'
New Foals record is going to be a BIG ONE. We brought you an exclusive video of the band in their Swedish studio, where they recorded Total Life Forever. Studio looks 'lush', as some people might say. How much an hour?!
7. Ratatat - 'Lex'
This'll do. As will, hopefully, the new record from Ratatat who confirmed details about it, as well as releasing a free download. Which was nice of them.
8. Band of Horses - 'Compliments'
Some people were complaining that the new Band of Horses record sounds a little bit too much like Snow Patrol. The bad version of Snow Patrol. This one doesn't, but I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. And you?
9. Wax Fang - 'World War II - Pt. 2'
This is quite triumphant. The lead singer doesn't sound drunk, more enthusiastic. We've all been there, haven't we? Read our 7/10 review of their new one, La La Land, by clicking your mouse here.
10. Male Bonding - 'Year's Not Long'
This band once described our forums as 'rancid'. Something like that anyway. Well, we can forgive such transgressions when they make a record as good as they have done, all fuzzed up, abrasive and as raw as freshly grazed knees. Read the 9/10 review here.
11. Biffy Clyro - 'Hope For An Angel'
Classic Biffy for you here, ladies and gentlemen. Our photo editor Gary Wolstenholme took some photos of the band in Sheffield. Some feature topless men. Oo-er. View them here.
12. Olafur Arnalds - '0952'
If there's anything perfect for a sore head then Olafur Arnalds is it. Genuinely. He has a new LP out on Monday entitled ...and they have escaped the weight of darkness... which, even if I do say so myself, is an absolutely fantastic piece of work.
13. Anais Mitchell - 'Doubt Comes In'
Hey, I don't think anything regarding Anais Mitchell actually happened this week BUT her 10/10 rated Hadestown is now available on Spotify. Which is reason enough to stick it on here, isn't it? Now you can hear its abundant quality. This one features Justin 'Bon Iver' Vernon.
14. Musee Mecanique - 'Sleeping In Our Clothes'
This was our Single Of The Week, as reviewed by Wendy Roby. She sayeth: "‘Sleeping In Our Clothes’ turns out not to be about falling into bed shitfaced, but being out while everyone else is tucked up in bed and taking risks and making plans with someone you don’t know that well but have a good feeling about [NOT A ‘VIBE’ THOUGH, VIBES ARE DREAD]. And it’s got the best brass section I’ve heard in ages, that sounds like it’s been recorded through a hundred layers of Kapok."
15. Javelin - 'On It On It'
This track is brilliantly ridiculous. We reviewed Javelin's No Mas here. If all the tracks were as good as this it'd have scored more than 7. But they aren't. So it didn't. Still, best to revel in 'On It On It' for as long as possible, eh?
16. Uffie - 'Dismissed'
Uffie has indeed got 'it'. Whatever it is. A foul mouth might be one suggestion, she needs to watch that thing out with soap and water. Seriously. Explicit. We took some photos of the multinational rappette here. They're a little less X-rated than 'Dismissed'. Safe for work.
