X-Factor winner did it for mum...
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver December 19th, 2005

...well, he had to, really: his dad's in jail.

Some nine-point-something million people tuned in to the X-Factor final on Saturday night (although more were watching Darren Gough twirl a bit), where 21-year-old Shayne Ward scooped the £1m recording contract. Personally, Andy kicked his vocal chords all over the stage.

But what inspired Ward to suffer Walsh in his face all day, every day? His mother, of course. "This is all for you," he told her on the live broadcast; he also received a good luck message from his dad prior to his performance, currently serving time for rape.

His single, 'That's My Goal', is due for release on Wednesday when it will compete with Westlife and Nizlopi for the Christmas number one. Anyway, back to mum (thanks, The Sun)...

"Most of my family have never been on holiday. I've only been abroad once. We couldn't afford it when I was growing up, so we just made do with day trips to the seaside or nice walks in the country.

"My mum's never even been on a plane, so I want to take her somewhere really nice. I just want her to experience somewhere else because she hasn't got a clue what the rest of the world is like.

"She deserves it because it was hard bringing us all up and she did a great job. I want to give something back."

All together: aaaawwwwwww. Or something.
