Post punkers Lomax to their credit, have been posting the punk a lot longer than most of their contemporaries, giving some sort of non-bandwagon credibility to their whole affair. These are serious young men making serious music.
However, as toweringly worthy as ‘Modern Life’ is, it doesn’t stop it from being so earnest as to be particularly unenjoyable. The thumping bassline reminds us of Radio 4, while the vocal sounds like a particularly raspy, exasperated David Byrne. Most of all though, it makes us want to go see Hot Hot Heat and Franz Ferdinand tonight, and dance.
Po-faced: off putting.
