London’s The November Five - Joe Cribbin, Chris Maciejewski, and Julian Marszalek - are three earnest looking blokes of a certain age who look like they should be on ‘Grumpy Old Men’ and who, let alone remembering it, sound like they were part of the C86 scene.
However, upon closer inspection, title track ‘Part Of The Process’, has a definite touch of The Stranglers about it, and comes complete with what sounds like a chorus of crack addled pigeons. Plus, vocalist - and former Music 365.com writer – Marszalek has a neat trick of stretching words into what sound like whole sentences (you really ought to hear what he does with the word ‘chain’).
On ‘Communicate To Me’, Marzalek makes a decent fist of impersonating Julian Cope which serves to confirm the suspicion that this is the work of Teardrop Explodes fans. No bad thing at all as it happens.
Sure, The November Five aren’t exactly reinventing the wheel here but this is a damn fine effort, one which may mean today’s whippersnappers ought to watch out for the ‘grumpy old men’.
