By now it’s been proven by Brighton duo Blood Red Shoes that having only guitar, vocals and drums between you doesn’t mean you have to sound like half a band shouting in a vacuum.
Prolific as they are, BRS’s latest single doesn’t waste anytime bursting into life thanks to Laura Mary Carter taking pains to emphasize her guitar with a delay pedal while drummer Steven Ansell provides the danceable backbeat. By contrast to the lightness of ‘It’s Getting Boring’, the minor chord explosion of b-side ‘Box of Secrets’ is more tantalizing and Goo-like as it breaks and twists around their sinister shared vocals. Teetering on the brink of collapse, you can understand why these two can hold their own during support slots with Lightning Bolt and yet remain dancefloor friendly.

Love this song. I think its their best one yet.
thanks
i like this review because it mentions goo and that's my favourite sonic youth album. and what's weird is that when we played with lightning bolt, they actually mentioned they liked the song "box of secrets"...spooooookeeee
sx
Got it on monday from Rounder Records
it's good. I like Laura's artwork. The song sounds like a 1960s female-diva-orientated song grunged up and sped-up for a disco. The drums sound better than on any tune yet. Good production and good on-mass handclaps. Incidently, i have voted for it a few times for the NME Chart/MTV2.
good review
good song!
