BRMC Leave Virgin

Black Rebel Motorcycle have have parted company with Virgin Music and are currently in talks with other labels. The band's forthcoming mini tour in May is unaffected by the change, as "we never had tour support anyway," according to singer/bassist Robert Turner.
In a statement to their mailing list, Turner also stated that the band had been trying to "quit" the label for the last six months, and that now they're free of their contract "this is actually the greatest day in our band's somewhat short history", although a spokesperson for the band told NME the split with Virgin was "a joint one."
This also happens to follow the shakeup of EMI (the major label Virgin is part of), with the report they were dropping 20% of their roster. Virgin recently shut its Hut imprint, as previously reported on DiS.

BRMC Leave Virgin
Strange, I'd have guessed they'd be one of their more profitable bands, didn't their last album do quite well?
Re: BRMC Leave Virgin
I didn't think they were that big... I don't remember seeing the album in the charts, but I don't follow the charts anyway other than to find out if there's a new Christina Aguilera video I should be watching. :-D
Re: BRMC Leave Virgin
the album wasn't massive, but i think they'll be snapped up by another record label pretty soon, they're too good not to get signed again....I saw them play at brixton academy recently and they were top class
BRMC Leave Virgin
inside information says this band were dropped. funny how press get a different story.
Re: BRMC Leave Virgin
Read between the lines...
BRMC Leave Virgin
Ahhhh no one cares about BRMC....an awful band if ever I've heard one. Hope they bum around for ages without any kind of deal.
Re: BRMC Leave Virgin
the album did, to be fair, chart at number 2. if that counts for anything.
BRMC Leave Virgin
What a great example of why to avoid major labels like the freakin' plague. They obviously hated Virgin as much as Virgin hated them. They probably did well to get out of the contract in the first place. Anyway, on a different note, BRMC sound like Oasis and are really dull, so I can see things from both perspectives here.
Re: BRMC Leave Virgin
Wasn't like they didn't have tons of high profile exposure, tv advertised, NME branded tours, tons of appearances and placed stories. It's more a lesson in how hype doesn't write you classic songs.

BRMC Leave Virgin
so well said.
In getting behind BRMC NME backed the wrong horse. Lame band, debut single was ok...at least quite exciting in a "...typical shit NME type band" kinda way - all downhill from there, last album was appalling. Reading appearance last year equally appalling.

for mew the lamest BRMC moment was their tv ad for the album..."now at Woolworth's". ...hey, PUNK ROCK!!!!
and yet, they did have soome cool songs. mabye they'll learn their lesson(s). But probably not.

I never really got BRMC - saw them at Glasto in 2002, but really didn't press any buttons. Good name, shite music. Good riddance

What load of crud, get a bit of education. black reble motorcycle club. eh? yeah sure you may have your own crap views on them, but at the end of the day they're an indie band (with there own style) which typically means drony and samey, i like them and theyve tried to get away from the type of music that brought down most indie bands mid-1990, theyve filled a hole that was Jesus and the Mary Chain//My Bloody Valentine. i saw them at glastonbury 2002, sure i didnt know anything by them but they were the highlight of the sunday i thought.
oh yeah and NME, dont get me started on that piece of overused bog roll. sure theyll have something good occassionally, but my do the hype bands to mountain everest esq. levels with out actually hearing an album more than once!! and virgin label, richard branson got rid of that bastard child already (although he setup another, why? who knows probably ££ i expect), and how many bands have stayed with them anyhow? Amen and Vex Red got kicked off.
i hope they get signed by a mid-indie label and stay vaguely out of the mainstream so they dont breakup through public talking about stuff they know nothing about.
Now go and read about the next big thing who'll break up as soon as they release a record...

Re: BRMC Leave Virgin
I'm confused. Do you actually like BRMC or not? It's hard to tell.
I don't think Branson set up V2 to make money. It's not like he needs anymore...

Yeah, i like em. And dont be so sure about Richard Branson, most people like him invest to get lots of £ back.

Did'nt so much fill a hole more, erm........ rampant plagiarism. There's a couple of good songs on the first album, but to be honest their even duller live, then the mary chain where. & quite why anyone would build a career on imitating, those two scotish knob heads is beyond me. Some Candy taking a leak.

oh dear, BRMC have left virgin
