DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...
rubbafish by Colin Weston February 25th, 2004
Well, the excess of the Xmas period has FINALLY cleared and we are back with the latest mutterings on the musical grapevine...

First up is Hull's Age Of Jets, who have had their debut single 'RPM' delayed by a week to March 1st. The band emphasised though that the album will still be out in late March and they'll be playing the Norwich Ferry Bar and London Metro to promote the album (30 Mar & 5 Apr respectively).

Melbourne's flavour band of the moment Jet (okay, they're not exactly an unknown!) are to do a live performance and a signing of new single 'Look What You've Done'. It is all happening at Virgin Megastore, Oxford Street on Monday 8th March. Events kick off at 5.30pm.

The Dawn Parade have announced details of their next release, entitled 'Broke on Angel Street'. It'll be released in May through Sugartown Records. It has been quite a year for the Suffolk-based band, which culminated in them scooping Rolling Stone's Single Of The Year (in the Well Hung At Dawn section).

Indie label Eyesore Records has decided to call it a day after three years. James and Paul who ran the label had this to say:

"The business is a stressful one for the smaller tykes out there, and also an expensive jaunt too. We are therefore sad to announce that we have reluctantly decided to bow out of the business and retire Eyesore Records."

They are currently having a clearout of the label's back catalogue (check the website), and are going out with a BANG with one final gig at Birmingham's Flapper & Firkin on March 7th. The bands are The Killerest Expression, Jerry-Built, Darlison and Shortcut To Newark.

The supremely indie Abuse Records have announced some details of this year's release schedule. Although there are no specified dates, label owner Sid has revealed that we can expect a 100 Bullets Back 7", a Polar Remote 12", The Souls 7" and the Yumi Yumi album, as well as the latest 'Abuse Your Friends' compilation, now up to volume four.

Santa Barbara five-piece The Snake The Cross The Crown have been signed by Equal Vision Records. On the band's agenda is their debut album which they are set to start recording in April. They'll also play a musical showcase in Austin, Texas along with the Dillinger Escape Plan. The band have one release to their name already, the 'Like A Moth Before A Flame EP', which was released on Waste Of Time Records in August 2003. To hear a few tracks from their EP, click here.
