BMG Favourites for Prince

Prince has gone back on his pledge to self-release new material and is looking for a major label to release his next album.

The purple pixie of funk quit the major label scene a few years ago and turned to selling his records directly to a huge online fanbase. However, following his performance alongside Beyoncé at the recent Grammys, major labels are now keen to sign him up again, with BMG believed to be first in the queue.

great news for the world i reckon. i always have faith that one day soon the mighty love-dwarf will return to form and world domination. yay!

BMG Favourites for Prince

so the purple prat is about to return is he.

not being a major fan (you may have already guessed) surely his going back on a pledge not to use major labels is all about money and he has subsequently sold out?

he had his day and he was selling record to his fans so why should he need to so it?

Its about the music buddy, stop trying to make it about the money you evil little corporate cockgobbler. Oh and, you might want to take a shot at the pixies if you are talking about money.

I think we've been here before, and his name is George Michael.

*huff*

When I saw the headline, I was anticipating the gleeful singing of Prince Philip to BMG. How disappointed I remain.

Re: BMG Favourites for Prince

i think it's probably less to do with money, and more to do with Prince's ego.

He still WANTS to be the biggest star in the world, but has realised that the people aren't going to come to him anymore, he has to put himself out there.

i love Prince, but he's a total nutjob all the same!

He never stopped using major labels, he just didn't sign up. Since ditching Warner Brothers, he's tended to license individual albums out. The web only stuff was just a load of MP3s.

Mind u, he's only had one number 1 in this country and he put that out himself.

BMG Favourites for Prince

there's more to prince than any little shitty indie band out there including anything on the cover of NME and Q.
Prince's influence is all over the charts - OutKast, Alicia keys, Scissor Sisters and even the Foo Fighters are having an album track radio hit with their cover of Darling Nikki.

like Prince says: get an education before you buy a pair of shoes.

Re: BMG Favourites for Prince

I defy anyone not to be completely slain by his live shows... he is probably one of the only people I could say is more musically talented than Matt Bellamy.... like Paul Gascoigne and Johann Cruyff.

BMG Favourites for Prince

Whichever way you look at Prince and George Michael, its a sell out. The guys who were "rebels" against the labels, have both caved it for money and/or chart success.

They followed Bowie. Whats next Shares in Prince?

Sad.

Re: BMG Favourites for Prince

Gazza and Lindisfarne more talented than Muse? Eeps...

Re: BMG Favourites for Prince

Yeah but it's not like he's signing himself or his ownership of the masters (which is what the whole 'Slave' business was about), he's signing away an album, just like he did with "Emancipation" (EMI/Capitol) and "Rave" (Arista).

He's a musician and an entertainer, not a business man. Why should he have to deal with all that shit the labels take care of?

Prince fans should download the track by Boy With A Toy on the website

Re: BMG Favourites for Prince

cockgobbler my arse!

prince is rubbish and like that bloke said its all about his ego, although money might have someting to do with it

as for the pixies, not a major fan myself but reforming isnt always the best thing to do, look at whats happened in the past, could be good, could be bad but to be honest i dont give a shit

Who gives a fuck what label he's on, whether he's sold out, blah de blah de schmindie blah? He's Prince, and he's a genius, and the World needs him more than ever now that Beck's off being country sad ballad man. Anyway, his purpleness is far too busy to do the whole One Man Record Company thing, what with spreading The Word in a door-to-door stylee and all.

And leave George Michael alone. He's great and you love him. And his anti-war single was pretty bold, if utterly shite.
