A number of websites (and you can chalk us up now) have been reporting that Queens Of The Stone Age are on the verge of splitting.
Apparently a rift has appeared between core members Nick Olivieri and Josh Homme, with the bassist reportedly putting partying before work committments.
Rumours of Mark Lannegan's departure from the band are also rife. All three members are currently involved in other projects - The Mark Lannegan Band (Lannegan), Mondo Generator (Olivieri) and The Eagles Of Death Metal (Homme).

oh well, i used to love this band but i hafta to say that songs for the deaf really wasnt as good as the other qotsa records (qotsa, rated r, kyuss/qotsa split) and josh did say he never wanted to repeat himself...plus remember kids, nick left kyuss but still came back with the guys from that (including josh)
so its not like they might never record...stil kinda sucks, but they had become eNeMEy fodder recently.

And this is relevant because? At least it's one fucking good band that the NME decided to give coverage too. I'd be gutted if Queens split, they are the best rock band in the world. Three fantastic albums and unstoppable live.

I'd be sorry to lose them. They've always been great entertainment, and they've always been very consistent - considering the general vastness of their catalogue as Kyuss, QOTSA and even the Desert Sessions.
If nothing else they proved that "rock music" and even (eeuugh) "excess" can co-exist with imagination, charisma, humour and individuality. "Songs for the Deaf" took a lot of shit for being more "conventional" but to my mind it was still incredibly hot.

im not believing this. first of all on the 30th january nick mentioned in an entry on the mondo generator site that he was writing new songs for queens, whilst josh has been touring with eagles of death metal pretty much since then. i doubt very much he's the kind of guy to dump someone over the phone. this story first appeared on the nme site yesterday and then was removed within two hours. hmm.

whoever made this story up needs to be flogged to death- rock music needs QOTSA- all this talk of separate projects has been taken the wrong way- Homme and co. are such prolific songwriters, they just needed to diversify- to repeat - Wernham_Hogg needs it's head checking

I agree with you, a real rock band, but I do think that the reason they stand out (stood out?) is as much to do with the state of the competition as their merit. (someone said the same is true about Michael Schumacher... had he existed at the same time as Ayrton Senna then he would have been just one of the hot contenders, rather than a dead cert). I think it is a shame that more bands don't embrace the 'craft' of making music in a band, dynamics, raises, stops, clever stuff...using your music to manipulate an audiences heartbeat and not just relying on singalong.... Even the wonderful Muse could do more in this respect.
