Warp Records have signed a licensing deal to release a !!! single and album in the UK.

!!!, pronounced "chk chk chk", are an 8-piece Californian band who've been releasing various singles on home turf since 1997.

The pioneering UK label, normally associated with more experimental electro acts such as Aphex Twin, Boards Of Canada and Broadcast, has licensed a single from the Touch 'n' Go label in Chicago. 'Me and Guiliani Down by the School Yard (A True Story)' will be the first release via Warp. More details on that when we get them.

The band will be playing UK gigs this summer. They play twisted punk/funk meets dance 'n' soul. Quite possibly one for fans of The Rapture, Radio 4, Moving Units etc.

One song title is 'We Were Stoned When We Thought Up The Title Of This And We Didn't Want To Give It A Name That We Had To Explain As 'Oh Yeah We Were Stoned When We Thought Of It' So We're Just Calling It Improvisational Jam 11-02-01' ... so you know they're obviously good.

!!! are John Pugh (drums), Tyler Pope (guitar), Justin Van Der Volgen (bass), Mario Andreoni (guitar), Allan Wilson (sax-percussion), Dan Gorman (trumpet-percussion), Nic Offer (throat), and Jason Racine (percussion).

point taken. i'd just consider them to be electronica rather than electro. sorry, just being a miserable bastard i suppose.

I never did follow all these different genres '7' magazine used to pretentiously waffle on about.

'electronica' has always been an American term i feel, quite an old one too, it's only been imported in mass for the last few years, covers just about everything none guitar based with a hint of technology etc

but that's Americans and their broad genres for you etc, there's been a massive surge of ill-feeling against French's Mustard over there because they think it's unpatriotic to eat French food at the moment...

you're right about the american use of electronica, which is why they created the term IDM which is the equivalent of what is known as electronica here.

electro is different, and far more specific - started in NY with a hiphop sense, like Planet Rock, Drum Machine etc., and then moved to detroit and became more in line with techno (take drexciya, aux88 etc.)

doncha just love american attitudes! unpatriotic to eat french food, but fine to use iraqi oil. hmmm

about time someone fucking picked them up for releasing over here, their stuff takes a bit of hunting down over here at the minute but it's worth it..
also - "Quite possibly one for fans of The Rapture, Radio 4, Moving Units etc." - true, but OH so, soooo much greater than that too. the whole world should d/load "Intensify". and buy everything by them too.
ahhh... i <3 !!! to fucking bits......

oh and Outhud [inc members of !!! and stuff like that] are touring with Radio 4, and they're fairly ace/similar (without quite the soul and the fire) too tho not as good..

& electro/electronica?! ah fuck that, dontcha know its !!GABBER!! all the way now muh'fuckerss...

Oh... I just used the word 'electro' to mean 'electronic music', I wasn't thinking of it as a specific GENRE as such. Sorry for any confusion. ;)
