Mogwai on stuff: Damon and Test Icicles

i really thought they'd have gotten over their collective issues with Albarn by now.

though i used to love Blur, but you know, he's not Bono..........yet.

...because I was uncertain whether to run it or not. Then I figured: 'Well, it gives those that like Mogwai something to chuckle at, and those that don't something to chuckle at'.

Admittedly it'd be wrong of us to report on everything they post, but if it's at least a wee bit amusing we'll run it. I'm guessing many a DiS reader has respect for Mogwai...?

Seriously, this band are so fucking pointless.All they do is constantly have a go at whoever is more popular than them, acting like a bunch of little kids.
Damon Albarn - genius. Has made some of the most amazing music of the last 20 years, I agree that he's not someone I'd like to meet as he does come across as a pretentious fool but, when all is said and done, his ability to make brilliant music is unquestionable.
Test Icicles - So what if they haven't been together very long, maybe they have simply found out that what they thought would make them happy actually isn't and they don't want to do it anymore, they gave it a go but they've decided fuck it we don't want this any more. That doesn't make them chickens, it doesn't make them weak, it simply means they're honest enough to know when to walk away from something that was causing them unhappiness when others would just bumble on. And, for the record, I don't like their music at all, think it's terrible but as people I got no problem with them.
Mogwai on the other hand, I forget they even exist until they pop up every now and again with a rant against someone with more coverage than them. If their music is so fucking amazingly great and life-changing, it seems funny that they feel it so necessary to talk shit about people that have nothing to do with them than let their apparently great music do the talking.

Rant over. Apologies for the length of this post but I just don't know why people hold seem to put up with their sad little publicity campaigns.

and I like pretty much everything Albarn has done. All this makes me want to do is listen to Blur and put my Mogwai albums in the compost heap. It's getting a wee bit tiresome...

...what are they saying about Damon Albarn 'cos I genuinely don't understand it. That he tries to do everything and usually succeeds? How's that a rant?

I mean I can totally understand how someone could find Damon Albarn annoying (I do - it's nothing specific he says or does, he just has a quality of annoyingness about him) but that's a rubbish, unfocused rant. And surely attempting to criticise Damon Albarn and failing as the equivalent of missing an open goal.

It seems Mogwai are becoming better known for criticising others than they are for their own music. I mean, as someone who's been into indie/alternative music for nigh-on 10 years, I actually could not at this moment in time tell you how one of their songs goes (although I'm sure I've heard a few) but I could tell you their views on Blur/FHM/NME and various other subjects. Surely they should re-organise thier priorities?

For the critics on the replys so far: Mogwai wrote that on THEIR website for THEIR fans. It wans't intended for everyone. I'm sure it should have been news on DiS but whatever.

Also how can anyone call Mogwai boring? Only someone who's never heard them could dream of saying that.

C'mon, how many times over the past couple of weeks have you guys gotten news articles from their website which deal with them slagging someone off? This is the third. NME.com keep doing it too. Fair enough if Test Icicles just don't want to do it any more, but at least be honest! "Pressures of touring" is lame. Just admit you don't enjoy it anymore.

I wasn't saying that DiS were having a moan at Mogwai, just thought that it's a bit too much, especially as NME does it aswell sometimes. I heart DiS!

I like Mogwai and theire recent outbursts have made me laugh, but this is just puerile. There's hardly any wit that passage at all. The digs they were taking at a few years ago were funny as well, but now it seems as if their obsessed.

Their criticising Albarn now for being expansive, its as if they're annoyed that they can't slag him off for going down the Gallagher route of churning out the same old stuff every two years.

There are many annoying traits about Albarn, but we don't need Mogwai to start inventing new things to dislike him for. I don't think he's ever inferred that he is music.

Maybe it is frustration. It's true that so many other bands now do the 'Mogwai thing' better than them.
