Sub Pop: Terminal Sales?

15 years in the life of a label and it comes down to this...

Don't be fooled. 'Terminal Sales' is a two-cd compilation commemorating the decade and a half since 1988, of throbbing, funky, grainy, grungey, gravy, rock greatness which Sub Pop has produced.

You only need to look at the bands on the tracklist to realise what great music and affect this label has had: Sebadoh, Beachwood Sparks, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Shins, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, Iron & Wine, Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Ugly Casanova, Les Savy Fav, Hot Hot Heat, Rapeman, Nirvana, The Murder City Devils, Bright Eyes, and Ween

According to subpop.com this record includes "a slew of as-yet-unreleased-on-CD tracks, many issued originally as part of the infamous Sub Pop Singles Club." And the site also says it's released on June 3rd (we guess that's a US date).

In slightly relevant news, Drowned in Sound is currently in the process of following a grand tradition of starting a singles club and releasing important tracks from soon to be huge acts. More news on that soon.

DiScuss: What is your favourite record Sub Pop have released? Are there many labels around today with the same profile as Sub Pop? What do you think of Hot Hot Heat?

Sub Pop: Terminal Sales?

How It Feels To Be Something On? by Sunny Day Real Estate and The Lateness Of The Hour by Eric Matthews are my favourite Sub Pop albums. What do I win, Bob?

Re: Sub Pop: Terminal Sales?

Apart from the obvious Nirvana indulging-ness I reckon the best Sub Pop albums are Diary by Sunny Dale Real Estate, Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge by Mudhoney and Smash Your Head On The Punk Rock by Sebadoh.

Hot Hot Heat deserve a mention for making their best record this century mind.
