Gorillaz and Blur mainman Damon Albarn is to co-write a screenplay, alongside award-winning playwright Roy Williams, on the everyday hustle and bustle of Notting Hill.
Albarn used to live in North Kensington, a stone's throw from Notting Hill, and is focusing on the area's multiculturalism. The final piece will potentially be shown in 2007 at The National Theatre. Don't expect it to play out like the Richard Curtis film of 1999...
National Theatre director Nicholas Hytner said:
"The piece will be about the diverse culture that is Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill. Damon is one of the most unique and inventive musicians of the moment."They have been working on it for the past nine months and I have been absolutely thrilled by the stuff they have been producing together."
