MC5-er Attacks US Punkers
jmoore by James Moore March 19th, 2001

Wayne Kramer, formerly of legendary Detroit punk band MC5 has stated that US scene these days has become too "commercialised".

"Bands like Blink-182, and you know, I think they're probably decent fellows, I don't know them but, you know, to me it's just cookie-cutter, it's generic music that the record industry loves, you know," he told LAUNCH, "they get one thing that works and then they just hammer on that thing until everybody's so sick of it that the can't sell any more of those records. The idea of punk rock has been exploited and commercialised so that it's another flavour."

Meanwhile, Kramer has put together another supergroup, called Beyond Cyberpunk, whose self titled debut comes out in the US on 27th March through Musicblitz. Amongst the line-up are members of Mudhoney, the Ramones, Downset, the Stooges and Black Flag.
