Now, we're not usually ones to post grainy and low-quality YouTube clips of artists 'performing' 'new' material, mainly because it's not good for the listener to receive the work in that manner and b) it's even worse for the artist for their work to be heard in substandard form. You could argue that we've already made an exception for the recent Le Tigre vs. Christina track.
We're about to make another one, though, with a video clip of some new material from Richard D. James alias Aphex Twin because, well, the audio quality is actually decent, perhaps even a bit more (via Pitchfork). Sounds well good.
The performance was in Metz, France at Centre Pompidou. Cool, huh? What a treat. Anyway, there are a few more Aphex sets in the coming months, including a couple on this very isle. Have a look below to see if any take your fancy...
26/5 - Düdingen, Switzerland - Kilbi Festival
12/6 - Inverness, Scotland - Rockness
28-8 - London, England - LED Festival

Not too fond of the Analordy loop
but the rest of the it's pretty good huh
...
He's not exactly breaking new ground is he? People will be excited about this because it's Aphex, but really, there's nothing new or very exciting here I don't think.
This is beautiful, beautiful stuff
The genius is in the detail - on the surface it's elegant, propulisve, melodic, but if you listen carefully there's loads of interesting stuff going on. Aphex has been releasing fascinating, challenging, interesting music for twenty years now and long may he continue. I don't think there's any need for him to put out a dubstep album or start playing the kazoo.
Love It!
All the artists this guy's inspired. Sad that we're jaded, but in all honestly there's some beautiful complexity here. Can't wait for the final mix.
..
Come on! Can you honestly say there is anything 'fascinating' or 'challenging' about this?! It's fine, nothing wrong with it, but it's nothing special at all. I for one would expect a lot more from Aphex Twin. It sounds like he hasn't moved on musically at all in the twenty years you mention.
...
Fascinating? No. I think it's so easy to replicate what this guy started with today's software that he almost sounds like a replication of himself. This is his signature sound, refined and channeled into an easy listening piece. Is it groundbreaking? No. What do you hate about this piece? haha? What are you expecting? This probably will sound nothing like this on the album anyway.
