The Fall's legendarily belligerent frontman Mark E. Smith will release a World Cup song for England (via NME.com). We know it's bound to be brilliant, but will it be as brilliant as this offering from Neil and Christine Hamilton? Quite possibly, but that is a mark so high it may never be surpassed.
The track is called 'England's Heartbeat' and Smith has written and recorded it with former Fall member Ed Blaney and Jenny Shuttleworth, also known as Girl Peculiar. The band's name is Shuttleworth, FYI. 'England's Heartbeat' will be available to download from May 4, but will have its official release on June 7, the week the 2010 Football World Cup starts, in South Africa.
Believe it or not, THAT thing below is meant to be the front cover for the single. I'm sure there's something else being lined up, though? I mean, I'm not saying I could have done a better job with ClipArt and MS Paint but...actually, I am saying I could have done a better job with ClipArt and Paint. Ah well.
I'm sure you're as keen as we are to learn the official tracklisting. Well good, because it's below:
- England's Heartbeat
- England's Heartbeat (Instrumental)
- England's Heartbeat (Alternative mix)
The single also includes some strange lyrics about Boer Ridges and Stamford Bridge. This'll be the point where we post the video of Mark E. Smith reading out the classified football results...
