Review of Absolution

This was the first album I truly looked forward to, 22nd September 2003 could not come quick enough, having heard the previous two albums, and Time is Running Out and Stockholm Syndrome, I was extremely excited to hear what Muse's their third studio album. From the marching of the band in the intro to the apocalyptic tracks that followed, Muse delivered a masterpiece that did not end, every track, unique in its own way, constructed an album that never dipped in it's bombastic sense of grandeur which it shoved in your face continually throughout the album. This is my favourite album for many reasons, it reminds me of the times when it came out and every song is brilliant and likeable taking on a unique perspective. It has taught me the most, through people and the album itself. Astounding.

is LOL

Here is my review of the new Muse album, it is exactly one hundred and forty characters in length. http://tinyurl.com/my-muse-review-for-DiS

Origin Of Symmetry

If you've ever harboured dreams of being catapulted into space, cavorting with E.T., floating weightless through asteroid belts... this is the soundtrack to do it to.

Absolution

An amazing album with my favourite songs Sing for Absolution & Hysteria - when I heard it I wanted to crash my car into a tree with joy

Origin of Symmetry

Origin of Symmetry sends tingles down my spines, its the epic harmonics of Citizen Erased or the megaphone verse of Feeling Good. Bliss! :)

Origin of Symmetry

This album is a collection of Muses' most emotional rhapsodies that they have ever concieved. From Darkshines to Feeling Good, each song is individually great in its own respect and no two songs sound the same. Listening to the album for the first time having new born slowly slip into your ear with the soft piano all the way to megalomania epically smashing through your brain with the loud organ and crashing drums

Absolution

They nailed the formula-a blend of heavy rock and soothing melodies. If there was ever a defintion of a perfect album then Absolution is it.

Showbiz

Showbiz, as Muse blinked their way onto the music scene, in the shadows of bands past, they made one thing clear "Step aside, we're here"

Showbiz

After spending solid hours alone with latter more heavily produced albums to listen to Showbiz is like witnessing a realisation of someones raw talent. Bellamy shyly flirts with his falsetto abilities and seems almost embarrassed by his discovery, it's amazing to witness.

Absolution

If perfection does not exist...Absolution proves to us all that Muse has reached the closest step to it. The soundtrack of a lucid dream.

Absolution

Imagine, a musical boot, stamping on the face of those in power. Forever

Absolution

It's life & death & sex & religion & every emotion you've ever experienced in exquisite musical form. Not to mention how much it just ROCKS.

Competition

I first became a Muse fan when I was 11 by hearing my first Muse album. This album was Absolution, and I’m not kidding, but it set me up for life. From then on, I learnt Piano, Drums and studied about studios, music technology and recording related topics.
I’m now 17, achieving distinctions in Music Technology and this is all thanks to hearing Absolution (+ other Muse albums) and being inspired by such an incredible sound. I aim to advance into University and study a BSc Honours in Audio Technology, so I say Thank You, Muse, for changing my aspirations.

Absolution

Contemplating hopeless love- 'Endlessly' says it all...

Stirring drum beats, soaring, aching melodies and emotive lyrics, I can't wait to hear what soul searching truths you have in store for your fans in The Resistance.

H.A.A.R.P.

Who said Wembley Stadium was built for football?

Origin of Symettry

Whether it be the slow build up or New Born or the wall of pure rock that is Plug in Baby this album delivers everything you want, and more

A Night at the Opera

all the classic Muse-songs. on one album.

Origin Of Symmetry

The result of channeling Rachmaninov & Morello, wired on hallucinogens & exploring llamas toenails as percussion. 52mins of serrated majesty

Origin Of Symmetry

An album of lyrical and musical poetry, blending songs of insane astronauts with love songs to a guitar. A masterpiece.

Absolution

Absolution is made of a disconcerting coherence. Peaceful and irritated at the same time, the album is the reflection of what makes the human being in its entirety. It represents the universality of everyone's redemption, the absolute that contains our heart, and finally the Foregiveness with ourselves.

Black Holes & Revelations

Black Holes & Revelations is the accumulation of divine-inspired talent and years of practice. It leaves one satisfied, yet ready for more.

Origin of Symmetry

A classic masterpiece with all the ingredients for a wonderful Muse recipe. With fan's favourite 'Citizen Erased' to classics such as 'Plug in baby' and 'New Born', this album has set the standards for rock music in this century. Well done, Muse!

ORIGIN OF SYMMETRY

New Born: Epic
Bliss: As the song so rightly says...
Space Dementia: Wonderfully weird
Hyper Music: Banging
Plug in Baby: Classic
Citizen Erased: Trippy
Micro Cuts: Haunting
Screenager: Just plain Ace.
Darkshines: Whiney in an amazing way
Feeling good: Proof that they can nail a cover version
Megalomania: Epic last song.

All of the above: PLAY LOUD.

If you can't chose...

It’s impossible to review the best album off muse in only 140 characters! First of all, you can’t chose your favourite album! They are all great albums in their own special way! It’s like you have to chose who’s your favourite child… The mix between classical influences and good old fashion rock is one of the ingredients that make this band special. The bombastic, magnificent sounds blow you away every time again. We can only hope that the new album is as good as the others. If you heard the 2 new songs you can say: they did it again!

Absolution

'This is the end of the world', but clearly not the end of this trio from devon. The second you press play you are enveloped, dislocated from reality. Fire and brimstone is all that awaits you all packaged nicely in a small plastic/metal disc. From the end of the world to the thoughts of a dying atheist, Muse pretty much cover all of the human psychie and the breakdown of all classes of people when confronted by death. When the album finishes you phase back into the real world, anger removed, worries gone. You could call it therapy, momentary insanity... or a bloody good album.

Orange In A Cemetery

Muse in a nutshell, with heavy riffs and bonkers moments. This is how they will be remembered as a band.

Absolution

An epic journey of apocalypse and war, redemption and love, across fourteen tracks of almost flawless beauty; this album will be remembered.

Origin of Symmetry

A slap in the face to those who slated Muse as Radiohead wannabes. The pull-back of 11 tracks turn into impact through sharp guitar riffs.

Black Holes and Revelations

How to Assemble an Atomic Bomb, had U2 not inaccurately got there first. The evolved sound of delivering on every inch of potential. 9/10

Absolution

This is 52 minutes and 13 seconds of the feeling when you are falling down and flying up at the same time.

Absolution

When the moment comes, put this on and close your eyes. The end of the world never sounded so good.

Absolution

To take Absolution as it (probably wasn't) intended - the album that documents Muse absolving their indie past. Bindings broken. Pomp is IN.

Absolution

A beautiful combination of strong and emotionally driven songs that encapsulate and enthrall any listener to this masterpiece of an album.

Absolution

Right from the intro you are hooked, the sound of marching leading into the unmistakable sound of Apocalypse Please. From this apocalyptic tale comes Time is running out the song that launched Muse to new heights in America. Sing for Absolution, Stockholm Syndrome and Falling Away With You follow and you are swept along before Hysteria smashes into your senses with the craziest bass line ive ever heard. Onto Blackout, one of the most haunting and beautiful songs by Muse and Butterflies and Hurricanes with its bombastic sound closely linked with piano solos Chopin would be proud of. The Small Print and Fury lead onto Endlessly a truly amazing love song. Finally we are left with Thoughts of Dying Atheist and the album ends in style with Ruled By Secrecy. A breathtaking and quite astounding album.

Origin of Symmetry

a metaphorical journey of all emotions bound into a box and catapulted into space, a perfect album to start the beginning of the 21st century

Black Holes and Revalations

If I shot a film based on “The Little Prince” by A. de Saint-Exupéry – one of the best books ever, BHAR would be the ideal soundtrack for it

Absolution

Absolution is just breath taking, Theres a song on there for every mood, Just makes me smile, Couldn't live without this album!

Absolution

Absolution has a wide range of harmonies, from classical to hard rock. You don't see that often, and that's what makes it the best out there

Origin Of Symmetry

If every band could write an album as haunting, beautiful, emotional, magnificent and mind-blowingly brilliant as Origin of Symmetry, then I would explode with happiness.

Origin Of Symmetry

Newborn puts the RAW in RAWK One of the best album openers Ive heard. The album flows so well up to Megalomania. Muse write albums not songs

There's a reason most people have chosen Absolution

Absolution, in my opinion, isn’t just Muse’s greatest album, but the greatest album ever written. From start to finish it’s a rollercoaster ride of political injustice, emotional torment and religious scandal. Each song has its own story to tell, but when you put these stories together, the end result is a fourteen-track piece of musical literature. I don’t think there’s another album out there which could begin with such a violent piano intro (Apocalypse Please), then end with such soft melodic precision (Ruled by Secrecy) from the same instrument, and get away with it.

Random 1-8

Released only in Japan this EP introduced Muse to the eastern world. Random 1-8 contains extremely rare b-sides such as Host, Coma and Yes Please. The album starts out with a progessive, sinister song with an ending similar to that of Nature_1 in Host. Then moves to the more pop like Coma and Pink Ego Box which capture Muses early "Crazy Days". From Pink ego box, the album takes more of a hard rock feel with Yes Please (a VERY heavy song screamed through what sounds to be a megaphone) and Agitated an extremly rare song mostly heard only live. The epic album ends with two more common live songs Filip and Do We Need This?. Random 1-8 is much less political then Muses newer albums and mostly focues on everyday things such as love and drugs. This is over 140 characters (I know what your playing at) but fuck it its always nice hear the early muse that started it all.!

It's All Showbiz...

Showbiz is a scorching example of tender ballads and angsty vocals, turning Muse from being diamonds in the rough to gems in the crown of British music history.

Origin of Symmetry

Origin of Symmetry: a swirling, ambitious rock record that sounds completely original. Glittering piano and scintillating guitar riffs: this album defines Muse.

OoS

This album explodes the horizon further than my gauged-out eye can see - it's broken down all barriers, turning chaos into something beautiful and placing itself firmly in musical history.

Origin of Symmetry

This album never tires out and it is pure stupefaction. The songs Bliss and Citizen Erased top all for being awe composed in to the notes abcdefg and beats. It might just be me but I think they may have invented some new notes in the fabrication of this album, divine notes, perfect notes, repugnantly glorious sensational notes.

140 character length review limit

that limit is disgusting and any muse fan that can describe any of the albums in that few characters isn't. In fact I am repelled at my comment for it would take an eternity to describe the intimacy of any of the albums muse has spawned.

Absolution (but could apply to any of them)

An auditory orgasm from beginning to end!

Origin of Symetry

bewitching guitar, rageous bass, shinny drums, piano delirium, religious organ, a voice, a rebel scream in those dark days of insignificance

Absolution

Its classically-inspired, undulating cadence foments a milieu that renders even a casual listener ironically transfixed for 52 minutes.

Black Holes And Revelations

From the eerie layering synths of Take A Bow to the mind blowing ending that is Knights Of Cydonia this album is an that won't be forgotten.

Absolution

It has everything you want in a perfect album, mind blowing solos, lyrics that can make you cry, and Muse craziness. What more can you say.

Black Holes & Revelations

The best album for a first time listener. Muse marks the new era of modern music with unforgettable, inspirational vocals and instrumentals.

Hullabaloo

Greatest live album ever made due to the great set which is played out perfectly an p*sses on the album version e.g. Citizen Erased, Showbiz. The B side album contains some classics which would shine if released today e.g. Map Of Your Head, Shrinking Universe. It has 2 great sets to listen to a crazy loud powerful live set and a mellow swarve playlist. Trust me and enjoy

Origin Of Symmetry

After their music entrance with debut Showbiz, Muse accomplished on Origin Of Symmetry to persuade even the most critical journalists admitting they are not just a Radiohead-clone. They force us to admire their very own sound and quality. Furthermore, it introduces Matthew Bellamy as a genius composer, songwriter and pianoplayer. This album throws us into a rollercoaster of sounds and emotions with its bombastic parts followed by soothing ones. Listen to songs as Space Dementia, the superbe Citized Erased and all time live favourate Plug In Baby and you've got to admit that there's no denying as Muse being one of the greatest and idiosyncratic bands arround. At almost every song you're affraid of being thrown from the curve, but it holds you back at the exact right time.
This album hurts, but you can't stop pressing the replay-button.

Origin of Symmetry

8 years ago I bought this album on a whim. After cautiously hitting the 'play' button I was smacked square in the face with a song called New Born. A new fan was born.

Black Holes and Revelations

In 2006 I wasn't a huge fan of Muse but the first time I heard Supermassive Black Hole it was like a revelation! It sounded so different than the former albums but it was so Muse! This album makes us travel especially with City of Delusion! this album is not only a rock album a lot of different music style! Awesome!

New Album

My favourite Muse album first have the spontaneity of Showbiz and its abrasive melodies; all the extravaganza of OOS, its unbelievable riffs and anthemic chorus; the maturity and the ambition of Absolution and the will to experiment and to discover new horizons from BHAR.
I hope this imaginary Muse record is called The Resistance.

Review of Black Holes and Revelations

Black Holes and Revelations sounds like the work of a band who are one step closer to the album they have been striving to make. The avante garde rock trio fuse together like never before, creating majestic and melodic music. There are still the heavy guitar riffs to be found that frontman Matt Bellamy is known for (Knights of Cydonia) as well as examples of his ability to put slower paced tracks in the middle of a rock album (Soldier's Poem). The political messages come through a lot clearer than in Absolution but are never in your face. Muse have obviously taken time over this record, putting together an album of epic proportions, that signals a band who are about to go supermassive.

Absolution (competition entry)

Muse are a band who’ve been reaching higher and higher for the stars as they’ve evolved musically, and with Absolution they’ve finally taken off. From the epic, piano thumping “Apocalypse Please”, to the melancholic keys on “Rule By Secrecy”, Absolution is an album that takes you on a journey to and beyond the end of the world. Songs like “Hysteria” boast huge riffs and hard rock choruses that Muse pull off so effortlessly, and I applaud a mainstream rock band for stopping a song mid flow to add in a piano solo as in “Butterflies and Hurricanes”.
This album is beautifully symphonic and pleasingly huge, featuring a range of Muse’s different influences, which come together to form “Stockholm Syndrome”, album and career, highlight for the band. It is emotional and ambitious, the soundtrack of a band fully realised.

Origin Of Symmetry

The album that defined the band. The angst of Showbiz, built upon with cutting riffs and pounding bass to make angelic, sky-high space rock.

Absolution

I'm only 14 but I've loved Muse my entire life, literally, and from the moment I heard the Intro to the last piano note of Ruled by Secrecy, I was amazed. Muse are my life.

Origin of Symmetry

The energy of OOS songs could easily supply power for the whole city! But it does it for thousands of people around the world.

Showbiz

It is “Showbiz” for me. That is the album where is Sunburn which is the first ever song I heard from Muse and the one that made me jump and look for who is singing and discover this new and exciting band.
I like the uncompromising sincerity of the lyrics, the strength with which emotion are express trough the urgency within Matt voice, the contrast between hard guitar riffs and tender piano pieces.
Even though I think that Muse reached perfection in “Absolution” , my heart belongs to “Showbiz” where the poetic sense shines from inside as unpolished diamond.

It's so hard to choose a favourite but...

Straight from the bittersweet arpeggios and crunching riffs of New Born, OoS takes every listener on an epic musical journey, seemingly distorting space and time.

Showbiz

I don't think I've ever heard a debut album that manages to sound as perfect as this. It manages to produce perfect musical harmony between all of the instruments and vocals. Every song on the album is a classic, and is great in it's own right.

The Brilliance that is 'Absolution'.

A prodigious album with unconventional blends of dynamic classical and grandeur rock of which summons nothing short of an apocalyptic air.

Black Holes & Revelations (competition entry)

From brilliant melody to intense riffs, Black Holes & Revelations brings together aspects of Muse both original and established to produce a marvel of modern music.

28th September 1999: Muse walk on earth!

From the heat of Sunburn, the strength of Muscle Museum, Falling Down comes to life, the explosion of Cave then Showbiz: Muse by definition! the beauty of Unintended, the one and only Uno and more. One small step for Muse, one great leap for Music...

A character review of my favourite Muse album, 'Absolution'

Muse presents the most compelling and classically awe-inspiring masterpiece on the face of this planet. Whilst it's still here, of course...

absolution.

absolution was the first album i ever heard that made me stop and think "wow, this is everything i want in music". and i never looked back.

Black Holes & Revalations

By the time you've trudged through the second half dirge, you're about ready to die. Then Knights of Cydonia comes forth and destroys you.

Origin of Symmetry

Love & Hate, Life & Death, Light & Dark, Redemption & Damnation, Freedom and Slavery. All of this put to music = Origin of Symmetry.

ahhh I can't .

My favourite album? Ohh that’s a cruel question. I can’t choose one, because every album had different influences on me. But, if you force me to chose, I’ll probably say Showbiz or Absolution. These were their two most brilliant albums to me. Showbiz was, the beginning! When I hear it, I just, feel like everything around me is flowing. I think that their choice of putting Sunburn in first place, like opening the window for a new dimension, was perfect…
Absolution, well, it’s an aggregation of fantastic music, that marked the band. Most people, when think about MUSE, associates it the absolution’s sounds. I can’t say what is my favourite, because all MUSE's creations are so diversified and unique, that even always having present the sonority characteristics that form the band soul, I can’t compare them.

Origin of Symmetry: defining MUSE

'Origin of Symmetry' stands tall among the four albums released by the band, MUSE. Stepping up from the brilliance of the first album, OOS turned heads, introducing mystical sounds and empowering lyrics. MUSE makes a statement (done blatantly, mind you).
'Experiencing' the songs (one truly does!) can be related to a labyrinth: one finds themselves lost within the song. But once the final note has been played, one finds their way out once more, leaving a bitter-sweet taste behind. You don't want it to end, so you go back for more!
The whole album cries energy! It defines brilliance. From the compelling track of 'New Born', to the drowning perplexity of 'Megalomania' (a personal favourite), it is this album that is the definition of MUSE.
OOS says Life. It says Darkness. It says Infinity. It STATES Muse.

Black Holes & Revelations

You feel like a certified Knight of Cydonia after listening to this defining tour de force.

Black Holes and Revelations

my own personal revelation- there is so much thought in the words, so much skill in the music and such a variety of genres. Best album ever.

Black Holes and Revelations

Black Holes is to an album collection what a condom is to masterbation. You get told the added embellishments make for a thrilling and fulfilling experience, but when you actually get round to trying it for yourself you find it to be an ultimately hollow and vacuous experience, and probably shouldn't have bothered

Absolution

A combination of rock and classical, Muse’s third studio album. Each piece transitions smoothly into the next with effortless ease.

Absolution

A combination of rock and classical, this is Muse’s third studio album. Each piece transitions smoothly into the next with effortless ease.

Absolution

Absolution is an album for audiophiles. Every little insert of melody between a rift and or ballad creates a perfectionists touch to each song. It’s an album you can’t just listen once. Every song has its own little snippets of finely placed music there which could be an extra echo of a rift to a sharp whistling overlay. The level of detail put in every song gives a mind numbing chill on the thought of how much work, imagination and probably frustration was put in making this album. This album is in the farthest possible meaning of the term, typical.

My review of Absolution

Magnificient, here's how I could describe this album that I reckon is the best of all time .Every title is beautifully done and each has the potential of a Hit. Each track emmerge in us a feeling or a sensation distinct ... While listening to this album we are literally transported into an unknown world, maybe it's heaven ,who knows? Who else that Muse could put us in a state like this?

Origin of Symmetry

Perhaps not Muse's most accessible record, but definitely the most aggressive and riff abundant. It annoys me when people dismiss Muse as 'angsty Radiohead copyists'; perhaps they were with Showbiz but with this record they really made a move towards being the giant stadium rock monsters they are today. The songs are dominated by aggressive distortion and Matthew Bellamy’s soaring falsetto, which is particularly impressive on ‘Megalomania’ and ‘Feeling Good’. ‘Plug in Baby’ boasts perhaps one of the best modern guitar riffs around, and ‘Bliss’ is truly amazing with its tortured vocals accompanied by the scalic synth part. The cover of ‘Feeling Good’ reminds us that Muse can be optimistic too, and Muse have (of course) turned it into a bombastic rock number. Origin… truly began to illustrate the world-beating greatness that was to come from this truly remarkable band.

140 characters!! I misread and thought is was 140 words...ok here's the condensed version, though I was very proud of the other one...: Origin of Symmetry

1 album, 11 songs, aggressive distortion, catchy riffs, soaring melodies, emotive intelligent lyrics, another step towards greatness, genius

Origin Of Symmetry

After the rather throwaway charms of Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry was the album on which Bellamy and co showed the world what they were capable of. Matt's soaring vocals never came across as abrasive, his guitar wizardry never sounded self indulgent instead, they all contributed to form what can only be described as an opus. The lyrics explored all manner of themes to form an intriguing portrait of the world we live in; from joy to longing to hate. Undoubtedly the band's best and most interesting album

Showbiz, Pulse Modulation... (competition entry)

Blending moods and catalyst of emotions, Showbiz is a Sky Ear which Overlays and produces Unplugged and Emotional Clouds. There’s definitively no map for this territory, but a vast Odyssey which establish a New Order: the breaking of space - time.

The Resistance

Only 30 seconds of each song have already exploded with love, glamorous wonder and deep meaning. The Resistance is the diplomat of music.

Origin of Symmetry

The only album in my collection that my neighbours asked me to turn up instead of down.
