Space-rock trio Muse have masterminded a worldwide treasure hunt for their fans, involving USB sticks being hidden in various cities across the globe.
On the USB sticks? The track 'United States Of Eurasia' from their upcoming LP The Resistance. Worth having if you fancy hearing it, then...
Six of these USB sticks have been given to 'agents' across the world. To get on the chase, fans need to enter a code on the official website. Then, you can help solve puzzles for your own amusement.
Clues for the locations of the USB sticks and times for 'pick-ups' are all going to be on the official site, and discussion, if you're into that sort of thing, can be found here.
So far, the Paris and Berlin USBs have been retrieved - boo hoo! - but the other ones in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong and Moscow are still on the go, as you can see from the map thingamy on the microsite.
Oh, and kind as Muse are, they've got a 1 minute 12 second clip on their website of 'United States Of Eurasia' for streaming.
Here's the band doing what they do absolutely best.

Spotifriday #15 - This Week on DiS as a playlist
good idea but what a rubbish prize
one song that you can also stream from their website
haha
the song sounds like queen and is thus fucking shite :D
Welcome to 2007, Muse.
NIN did this already.
Muse have been doing this since 2003,
since the absolution days. get it right Yvash.
Respectfully speaking, you've missed the point ThingsThatFly
The USB sticks unlock the songs for streaming. The first stick unlocked 15 seconds, the second stick unlocked the next fifteen seconds, and so on. So in order to hear the whole track, all the sticks must be found. So the prize isn't all that rubbish, plus I think that the finder gets credit for the unlock.
It's definitely interesting, and it's definitely whipping their fans in to a frenzy!
The sticks also
get the people who find them two tickets to a show, along with a chance to meet the band. so it's not too shabby!
15 seconds of a muse song
and credit for inflicting it on the world is even worse a prize
I don't see why you'd want to look for a punishment.
Which is what listening to Muse is.
if you find one of the sticks then burn it
will that 15 seconds of the song be lost forever?
