Begin to hope... for a new Regina Spektor LP: singer announces Far

DiS loves Regina Spektor, so it's with great excitement we bring you news of her latest album, Far.

It seems like we're not the only ones, as a veritable who's-who of the production world has weighed in with contributions to the New Yorker's fifth record. Spektor's once again enlisted the services of David Kahne (who produced 2006's Begin To Hope), with help from Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple/Rilo Kiley), Jacknife Lee (U2/Bloc Party) and - gasp - ELO frontman Jeff Lynne

The tracklisting is still TBC, but the album's due for release in June. Tracks in contention for the record include 'Folding Chair', 'Genius Next Door' and 'The Calculation'.

If this is even half as good as its predecessor, we're in for a treat.

I think you mean if it's TWICE as good as its predecessor. Begin To Hope is pretty poor by her standards, strangely the Bonus Disc contained at least 3 songs that are better than anything on the actual album. Still, I'm incredibly excited about this.

I know it's a cliche

but Soviet Kitsch was much better than Begin to Hope (which occasionally ventured into Dido territory). Hopefully this might be a return to form although this announcement doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

Anyone thinking BTH is Regina's best record

..probably isn't really 'getting' her I would suggest. Hopefully a return to her earlier glories rather than the MOR side of things. Saying that, her Truck Fest Barn performances following BTH's release was nothing short of magical. In short, she is amazing!

Yep, she is

I wasn't trying to claim BTH is her best record, just that I don't think it deserved all the 'major label debut must = MOR / selling out' stick it got and, seemingly, continues to get.

Luke, not sure why her head is chopped off. Have tried to make it so this is not so, but failed.

I remember really loving "Songs"

but being progressively more disappointed with each new release. God what a snob! "I prefer her early stuff".

But live, can't be faulted, many happy memories. Like missing the beginning of Beck at V and not caring.
