American thrash metal pioneers Metallica have rocked their way up to top-spot in the UK album charts for their Rick Rubin produced LP Death Magnetic.
Death Magnetic, the follow-up to 2003's stripped-down-but-ultimately-not-very-good St Anger, was released two days earlier than scheduled due to significant leakage, and beat hyped-up black clad Glasvegas' self titled début to number one, despite giving the Scottish rockers a two day head start.
Whilst the mighty Metallica play London's 02 Arena tonight, Glasvegas have a sold-out gig at Leeds' Cockpit...
In other non Glasvegas vs. Metallica chart news, Elbow's Mercury Prize winning album The Seldom Seen Kid jumped to 7th from 61st, and the now middle-aged and unaptly named New Kids On The Block complete their stratospheric comeback from obscurity with their fifth studio album The Block reaching number 16.
DiScuss: Glasvegas vs. Metallica...Metallica win the battle for sales but who would your put your money on in a fist fight? Sure, Hetfield may be a bit of a bruiser (Kirk Hammett less so...), but would he stand a chance against four battle-hardened Glaswegians? Glasgow kiss anyone?
