Obama and McCain's top 10 musical jollities revealed
Eternally jetting across from Kentucky to Tucson can be lonely. So how do presidential hopefuls John McCain or Barack Obama relax? An earful of Dooley Wilson and Kayne West of course.
Blender magazine have compiled a list of Obama and McCain’s choice cuts (with running commentary from Girl Talk and Randy Newman), with the Democrat leader plumping for a mixture of traditional rock and dreary R&B, whilst the Republican card is no happier than when sat back soaking up “some of the classics”.
This comes after The Sun reported yesterday that Obama’s people have apparently approached Flakey Devonshire warbler Joss Stone to provide the official theme for his campaign, with a ‘a source’ stating that “he has always admired her music and thinks she is the perfect choice because of her unique appeal to black and white voters”.
Obama has previously distanced himself from Ludacris’s recent dedication to the Illinois presidential candidate, ‘Politics: Obama Is Here’, for labelling McCain as not worthy of “any chair unless he’s paralyzed”, Hilary Clinton a “bitch”, and George Bush Jnr as “mentally handicapped”. Seriously, what did they expect after from the man that brought the public this?
So, whose list do you prefer? Let’s be honest, a double-barrel of ABBA is better than that will.i.am stonker.

neck and neck
but Obama maybe edging it
McCain has two Abba songs
Maybe his opposition to same sex marriage is bourne out of resentment of a life he wasn't allowed to lead?
Obama
has Springsteen, Gaye and Simone — CLEAR winner.
When i saw Dooley Wilson
I thought it was this fella
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6zsbkeHvJY
McCain has two of the three best songs
in that he has What a Wonderful World and Good Vibrations to Obama's What's Going On.
I think my overall conclusion is Obama's is more of a solid and consistent set of song while McCain has the odd moment of brilliance that lifts the overall standard of a weaker list.
Not sure what this tells us about the election though.
I don't believe this.
You can imagine the conversation
Barack you need something to appeal to the kids, put this in your list.
Obama "who the fuck is Will.i.am?"
McCains choices
seem sort of floaty and throwaway.
where as obama's choices reek of being put together by some sort of PR company.
I think it would be rad if one of them had chosen CRASS.
^very much this
Obama's list just seems like an exercise in demography clasping
positive and socially responsible black music? Check
Strong women? Check
Manrock? Check
I suppose putting in some country music would be a totally transparent manouvre, but a bit of the Boss? Yeah, that'll appeal to blue collar middle America
McCain's seems a bit more genuine (although the ABBA love-in seems a bit strange)
Basically, someone needs to steal their iPods and look at the most played list. As it is, this exercise seems pretty worthless
I can't beleive either of them
didn't pick Presidents Of The United States of America
mccain wins
i'm so fucking indie
...
From this list I can surmise that Barack Obama is actually 10 years older than he makes out and white.
...and that John McCain is a massive gay.
If the boss endorsed one of them
literally thousands of people would base their vote of that factor alone.
I would.
Umm...
Didn't The Boss endorse John Kerry? The man who somehow fucking LOST to W second time round?
oh dear.
i did not know that.
Bruce for prez.
I like
...McCain's more topical selections, 'Take A Chance On Me' (voters, aww go on) and, as he is a man of notable vintage, 'If We Make It Through December'!
Bruce
has already spoke out in favour of Obama. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/50013-election-fever-bruce-boosts-barack-rockers-4-novick
He can hardly lose now.....
How much better would it have been
if Barack chose the Sisters of Mercy version of Gimme Shelter?
I too am cynical
about these bullshit lists. If the candidates had been asked out of the blue ...yeah, maybe, and then I'd be surprised they could name 10 songs. Any 10 songs!
Politicians suck donkey balls... and if Obama wins we'll see how little things actually change. It's always 'same as it ever was' with these mo'fo's.
And Rolling Stone is a national embarrassment too. Our no.1 music magazine hasn't a fucking clue what's happening in music (urgh!).
The Daily Telegraph's
so-called feature interview with Obama was copied from Rolling Stone. Disgraceful.
No NWA? No Wu-Tang Clan? No Public Enemy?
For shame, BO
music regardless
obamas amazing
