Stereophonics- not one, but TWO new albums!! Aaaargh!
greed by Graham Reed May 8th, 2002
You can't seem to escape the Stereophonics nowadays, thanks to their new found career as a Rod Stewart tribute band. But despite having a new albums worth of songs written, by the time we get to hear them It'll be at least 2 years since the 1.5 million selling "Just Enough Education to Perform" (Which incidentally, though the band claim the title originated from an Army phrase, it has worrying echoes of Hitler's statement once that he would give the invaded Russian populace "just enough education to read road signs".Funny how the media didn't pick up on that on eh?)

So, in lieu of picking an album thats new, the record label V2 is just looking into the possibility of putting out a live album in the shops just prior to christmas. (did someone say cash-in?)According to the bands website ; ", it seems we will see a new album from the Stereophonics before the year is out, but a live one rather than new material. V2 Records will be looking to cash in from last summers 'A Day at the Races' shows with a Stereophonics Live Album, which could hit the shops, unsuprisingly some may say, for Christmas 2002." Funnily enough, the album has already appeared in the bands discography section under the nifty and original title of "TBA" with it also saying "more details to follow". I've my own idea's on what it could be called, but they're mostly unprintable ("Have a Live Day" anyone?).... and the band have already used the name "Cwamn feel the noize" anyway.

As for the new material, Kelly Jones has recently revealed that 16 tracks are in varying stages of completion, and has been quoted as saying that ; "Ive been doing demos. Ive done about six finished demos. Theres another ten or so to record. its going well, actually. We're going back into the studio in October."

However If "handbags and Gladrags" is anything to go by, what we expect from these indie gods is the cutting edge sound of the future: Rod Stewart. Joyous. I can't (hurry up and) wait.
