XL release '90s dance compilation
- Artists:
- The Prodigy »
Though XL may well be just as known for Jack Peñate and Cajun Dance Party as anything else nowadays, a timely reminder of what’s in their rave catacomb is to be served up in the form of a compilation of early ‘90s tunes from their bulging back-catalogue.
Released digitally from tomorrow and featuring contributions from Awesome 3, Kicks Like a Mule and The Prodigy (check out our assessment on the Essex louts), the compilation, entitled XL Recordings: The First Chapters, assembles former glories between 1990 and 1995, picking at choice cuts from the label’s early guise as a dance imprint.
XL Recordings: The First Chapters tracklisting:
SL2 ‘DJ's Take Control’
The Prodigy ‘Charly (Alley Cat Mix)’
Nu-Matic ‘Hard Times (Original Mix)’
Kicks Like a Mule ‘The Bouncer (Housequake Mix)’
SL ‘Way in My Brain (Remix)’
The Prodigy ‘Everybody in the Place (Fairground Remix)’
Liquid ‘Sweet Harmony (Original Mix)’
SL2 ‘On a Ragga Tip (Original 12" Mix)’
Awesome 3 ‘Don't Go (Kicks Like a Mule Mix)’
Dance Conspirac ‘Dub War (Chapter One)’
Jonny L ‘The Ansaphone’

haha!
the bouncer by kicks like a mule... ahh that takes me back!!
we still play on a ragga tip in the car en route to gigs as well.
awesome.
Eleven tracks
really isn't enough for this kind of compilation
Especially with three SL2 songs
and two Prodigy songs.
....
it's called FIRST Chapters, I guess this means this is the FIRST of many, not a definitive 'best of'. Just a thought.
cool
I think they need at least another discs worth mind heheh
Well yeah
They're concentrating on the dance stuff they used to put out for this particular 'chapter', or whatever. Which is nice. But for one album, this isn't really that varied or great.
I have an XL comp
from ages ago - also called chapter, or chapter or something - it has Johnny L on it too.
It's quite good
sweet
just picked this up earlier, dont get that much for 13 quid, but they have thrown in some little postcards for each artist with some info on the back, how thoughtful
Forget this, invest in the new
Ragga Twins retrospective.
Got it today!
It's mega.
Thank you Soul Jazz.
i think these compilations are rereleases
as i used to hav xl recording compilation 1 - 4 and volume 1 was the same track listings
craigx
this is the same thing i think
i had all four of the xl recordings chapter compilaations
my mistake its not the same
the old chapters series compilations had many more tracks
