Coldplay's new single downloaded by over 600,000 in 24 hours

Over 600,000 people downloaded Coldplay’s new, free single ‘Violet Hill’ within the first 24 hours of its release, according to label EMI.

Made available from Coldplay’s official website at 12.15pm yesterday (29 Apr), the track is the first to be plucked from forthcoming longplayer Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.

The album’s out on the 12th of June, while ‘Violet Hill’ gets a paid-for digital release on the 6th of May – read DrownedinSound’s take on it here, if you so desire.

I loved Parachutes, but...

...I have hated everything else since.

This is definitely an improvement, I reckon. I just hope that Coldplay doesn't make any more albums that are unquestionably mediocre, which is what X&Y was......undeniably mediocre.

Normally I wouldn't care if a crap band makes crap music. I just won't listen to it. Unfortunately, I think Chris Martin may be a pretty decent human, so all the best to him and his Radio1-friendly band.
