Too Pure and Beggars Banquet go the way of all things as 4AD expands

There’s been a major restructuring over at independent umbrella label Beggars Group. Why should you care, when you could be busy watching Prince cover Radiohead at Coachella or Will Oldham drive go-karts and trampoline while high on magic mushrooms?

Because, until recently, Beggars Group was home to Matador, Rough Trade, XL, Too Pure, 4AD and Beggars Banquet – all important and great imprints. If that ‘until recently’ sent shivers of foreboding up your spine, your spidey-sense is on it: Too Pure and Beggars Banquet are to be effectively closed down by Beggars Group, who will pool their resources to help expand 4AD.

All of the artists on those two ‘mothballed’ labels – including Stereolab, Future of the Left and Scout Niblett** (Too Pure) and St Vincent and The National (Beggars Banquet) – will move onto 4AD.

Anyone currently subscribed to the Too Pure singles club need not worry for their goods – the series will run at least to the end of this annual set, another six releases of which are yet to be issued.

omg.

why would the beggars group close beggars banquet?

presumably thats where the name comes from...I guess 4ad is the one with the reputation tho- but then so did too pure....

boo

too pure are kool. the new francois/ray rumours 7inch is the sex

4AD

My favourite label of all time, there was a period when I bought everything they released. Just as well I don't now, but still some good acts to add to TV on the Radio, The Breeders and Beirut. Can't think of any more current signings..

RIP Too Pure

I used to have an unhealthy obsession with all things Too Pure in the mid-90s. Pram, Laika, Mouse on Mars, Seefeel, Moonshake... those were the days...

bon iver

is a really good 4ad recent singing!

^^^

Too Pure

Phew! The Singles Club has produced some amazing slices of 7" heaven this year.

Bon Iver is signed to Jagjaguwar

4AD just license it for release over here

what's happening to it hugs back?

as they don't seem to have been mentioned at all in that article

i loved Too Pure

they put out at least a good ten of my fave records of the nineties, anyone remember Long Fin Killie and Bows? ahh.

If the same label

is keeping the same bands, does this really make a difference to releases, besides the label logo and catalogue number?
