Los Campesinos! up close: DiS catches the Brixton Windmill action

DiS dispatched a pair of our team members to the Brixton Windmill, London last night to catch Cardiff-based septet Los Campesinos! play to a tight-packed crowd in a venue far too small for them… here’s what Christopher Alcxxk had to say on the night…

Whilst Saturday's Los Campesinos! gig at LSE Student Union's Afterskool Klub had more snakebite-crazed teenagers going agreeably mental, The Brixton Windmill is always going to be a somehow more fitting venue for the band, with their equivalently homely, fun, communal vybez.

Despite the somewhat static, perhaps overly reverential crowd, the atmosphere was entirely lovely, buoyed by some first-class quipping. As some of said quipping involved swearing the audience to blanket internet secrecy, I wouldn't feel comfortable revealing more than that the set consisted of tracks from their album Hold On Now, Youngster (review), debut single ‘We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives’ and their cover of Pavement's ‘Frontwards’.

Am I the only person who....

finds Los Camp really dull and slightly annoying?

and...

terrible live

No, I'm with you.......

must be an Andover thing.

sadface :(

Nope

I can't stand them.

class

Andover?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

hurrrrrrrah

obviously not

what a fucking stupid question. everyone has different opinions. there is no one band that EVERYONE likes. idiot.

Yes, not these days, but...

I lived in Anna Valley for years, went to college at Peter Symonds etc etc

I still have friends in the town.

That's not true.

EVERYONE loves GWAR, by law.

How boring.

Fair play to LC! for making a record that's initially very good but after a week or so makes you want to stab your own eyeballs out. Are they still relevant any more, really?

SHUT UP ALL OF YOU

"I believe in you, peter pan!"

On a more important note,

the violinist is cute.

uh oh

Most worthwhile article ever

aye,

how very inclusive and knowing. bleh.

and they played

international tweecore underground

this is true

i got a setlist but left it at home then wrote this at work

chill out

did you honestly think i was seriously asking that question?

Its called rhetoric

Los Campesinos

are shit. End of story fans.

my my

what hate for such cuteness.

i saw you on the tube!

i was going to say hi but you were getting on as i was getting off.

rhetorival questions:

the most pointless things to post on the internet ever?

Really enjoyable gig

I can't comment on the Afterskool set, though at The Windmill the crowd seemed pretty animated by London's doing-the-standing-still standard. I was pretty much at the front though so didn't get to see any apathy that may have been further back though.

I may have been biased though since my only comparison for them was that set supporting Future Of The Left at The Astoria which was nowhere near as good.

I bet you were

The drummer's trying to blow the roof off!

Amazing scenes.

Im' from Andover

and i say they're good,so it's 1-1!

the after skool set....

was really fun and they sounded great. so there... x

it wasn't

They said the very same at the afterskool gig.

Nerves I reckon

nope

if they got rid of the guy singing they'd be brilliant

sky larkin ftw

NOOO!

But i feel ashamed to say that cause everybody digs em so much! frustrating!

they look like

a bearsuit tribute band, I'll stick with the real thing methinks

I went to Peter Symonds

the year above Alexa Chung and the girl from Thomas Tantrums or whatever the fuck their name is.

heaven forbid men should find women attractive

whatever next?
