Paranoid band void: Glastonbury dismiss Radiohead's green no-show

Glastonbury Festival have dismissed Thom Yorke’s concerns about the impact any headline set from his band would have on the environment.
The Radiohead frontman warned organisers yesterday that his act were put off playing this year’s event due to the absence of a competent public transport system in the local area.
But a statement from Glastonbury’s press office refuted the claims, saying extra measures were taken by festival organisers each year “to reduce its carbon footprint”.
“[We’re] not sure what Thom is on about specifically, but there have always been extra trains put on for the festival, which arrive at the local Castle Cary train station.
“From there there's a free shuttle bus service to the festival site,” continued the statement. “There are also special bus services from all the local towns.
“Last year, in order to cut down on the number of cars, we issued 25,000 tickets linked directly to coach travel from all the UK's major towns; this reduced the number of cars by about 7,000.”
Glastonbury insist they aim to cut that number still further this year – so is Yorke’s flirting all just a ruse? Will Glastonbury Town Council really overhaul the local transport infrastructure just to give Yorke et al. the chance to wail at hundreds of thousands of people? No, probably not.

I like to see bands that I like every once in a while
Radiohead, and other bands, appearing at Glastonbury/Reading wherever mean that when they tour after that, I say "it's OK, I saw them at the festivals". For one thing most of us only have so much money to go round.
One band travelling to one festival probably prevents thousands of people travelling to attend tour dates. Surely?
Before anyone else points it out
Yes, I know tours sell out anyway and people travel to the dates, but I'm relating to my own specific instance and saying I'm sure I'm not alone in it.
If they're that worried...
...they can take one of those lovely 25,000-bearing coaches. That's right, they can pay an inordinately large amount of money to a corrupt ticketing monopoly that won't bother organising a return coach for them. They can wait for said, no-show coach for seven hours, overnight, in the pouring rain. They can collapse with hypothermia, regain conciousness only to be dumped outside in the same ol' sh*t four hours later. They can take the buses c.1920 to Castle Cary station, by which stage the red cross has to take them to the platform in a wheelchair. They can then be put on a train going the wrong way (i.e. up rather than down as that's about all you can do at Castle Cary) by the brains of Britain conductor. Bitter?
Moi?!
Best festival in the UK, worst transport arrangments in the developped world.
If Radiohead didn't write awesome music
this wouldn't be a problem, therefore Thom is the culprit
this is a non-story
apparently nothing happened today.
guilty thom
sounds like Thom would feel guilt free in Power Down

Sleight of hand
With Radiohead widely rumoured to be playing Glasto this year what better way to misdirect attention than to create a bizarre side story suggesting issues between the two. Don't fret guys, just a ruse to distract attention from the main story ie 1) are they available in June - YES 2) are they going to play Glasto this year? (bearing in mind they played V Festival, a mere shadow of glasto with no issues in 2006) - YES
So bypass the fluff, and get to the jumper!
