Jay-Z headlining Glastonbury

Eavis promised a black American and he’s delivered; Jay-Z has been confirmed to headline this summer’s Glastonbury Festival.
The event organiser revealed the news to BBC Somerset on the day that the ticket registration process began.
Eavis claimed he wanted to "break with tradition this time and put on something totally different”, a break presumably prompted by his concern at the growing age of Glastonbury attendees.
"He will appeal to the young people and under-25s for sure, so that's a big pull for them,” hoped Eavis.
"It's not like the traditional one we do, like Radiohead, Coldplay and Muse and Oasis."
True say, blud, blates n t’ing. Neil Diamond and Hot Chip were confirmed earlier this week for the weekend, which runs from 27th ‘til the 29th of June.

last time i checked
Coldplay and Muse were as' appealing to 'young people and under-25s' just as 'for sure' as Jay-Z is..
but michael eavis
is 72. he's too old to care about these minor things
I was hoping
for Lionel Richie... i guess there's always next year.
He's from Brooklyn!
Have the borders changed while I wasn't look?
let's be thankful
Eavis didn't call him a "big darkie"
Awww....
I want Prince!
if
he doesnt bring linkin park with him, i'm not playing.
Are you in the kooks?
Are you in dirty hands?
no to both.
kinda disappointing really.
i'm also not in the hoosiers.
i'm also not whacky. life is full of huge disappointments.
Not being whacky (or in the hoosiers)
can only be a good thing.
Although... see thread about the hoosiers where everyone says they like them and dance furiously whenever they hear them on the radio.
they're just good genuine pop
can't say fairer than that, really.
people who describe themselves as whacky should be gunged. and then stuck in a room with dave benson philips for a week.
It IS a big change for the festival
and fair play. I'll be watching.
If Eavis is concerned about too many oldies
then why book Neil Diamond?
that's quite a whacky
thing to say
Is
he still alive???
possibly.
i may of fallen into my own whacky trap.
Possibly just putting "whacky" people in a room with someone who is actually whacky, would show them they're not whacky.... oh i dont know!
Because.
Because he doesn't want to accidentally make sense.
if i we're...
going, i'd be happy.
I think its great
Glastonbury needs something drastic to stop the onslaught of boring toff's that seem to have taken over the festival..perhaps some ethnics might turn up!! we live in hope..
F..f..foreigners?
*gasp*
You don't realise how awful this is.
This is The Worst Thing I've Heard All Year.
Fuck. I can't believe it.
wot.
u racist or sommin'?
I am pleased
that it isn't Kanye West.
i thought it was a somerset farmer Vikram
when i went hundreds of moons ago it was hippy scum, punks, krustys, students, goblins, criminals, pushers...
I'd rather Kanye West've done it.
Its the opposite sort of music I'm into, but at least he respects decent music, even if he does try his best to spoil them when sampling into his songs.
This guy is just really ugly and I can't even remember anything he's done. I hope Michael Eavis changes his mind and then falls off a cliff.
Great News
Let's hope Dangermouse is there to do some Grey album reworkings.
I do thik this is a tiny step in the right direction
Although I still think the only person its going to really excite is Jo Wiley.
this would amazing
other than over half the audience won't really be bothered about seeing the Hova, or know him for anything else than Crazy in Love. Hopefully he'll play some club shows whilst in the UK.
He will appeal to the young people and under-25s for sure
Under-25s with deep pockets presumably. Surely the best way to appeal to young people would be to not pay so much for headline acts and lower the ticket price. When I was under 25 it was bad enough finding £75 to go to Reading each year.
I'm under 25...
...and I think the whole Jay-Z and Neil Diamond thing is rubbish. Last year I was happy with Bjork, The Chemical Brothers and whoever else headlined the second stage... who was it? I didn't watch any headliners on the pyramid stage apart from about 45 mins of The Who.
After last year's trench foot experience, and not being able to sit down all weekend, I'm going to have a year off. I can go and see The Police for free so I think I may do this instead.
To the person who wanted Jay-Z and Linkin Park... keep patient ;)
^ agreed
the people who will really appreciate JayZ will be over 25 hip hop heads who remember Jay Z from pre-Blueprint era, like me. But I won't be going as I hate camping and festivals should be full of under 25s getting wasted on cheap drugs not middle youth Guardian readers with their Habitat bbqs and GAP camping apparel.
oh shit
what a shame they must have been really struggling to find a headliner to settle on jay-z.
ah well everyone should now go to the green man festival now that Glastonbury is turning into another dull corporate music event. Come on Emily Eavis you can do better than this.
Leona Lewis could headline friday and Leon on the Sunday.
Oh dear I feel the death of a once loved alternative music festival is upon us.
