White Heat at Madame Jojo’s is a regular stop-off for the lacquered hacks of Drowned in Sound, reeling us in for a night out majority of Tuesdays with its potent mixture of drink, sweat, girls and dark. It’s got a good record collection too, and last night it added a guest-soaked live performance from Lightspeed Champion to its annals, as Dev Hynes rolled up for an impromptu album launch party.
Behold, ‘The Pun Lovin’ Criminals’: Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man head honch and tabloid-christened Fred Les, Victoria Smith and Samantha Valentine of Ipso Facto, Semi-Finalists’ Ferry Gouw and Joe Edwards from the Rascals joining Hynes for a covers set of indie-disco classics. Which?
‘C'mon C'mon' - the Von Bondies
'Slow Hands' - Interpol
'The Rat' - the Walkmen
'Get Free' - the Vines
'NYC' - Interpol
'Reptilia' - the Strokes
“Who wants to hear some indie?” was the motley’s unashamed opening gambit; find footage and photos below courtesy of White Heat's Matthew Hall.

Something old, something new #2 : The Modern Lovers
That had never occurred to me
I don't know a great amount about Les Inc, but Fred Les has never had that as his own nom de plume, has he? Bang yes, Blood-Royale occasionally, MacPherson obviously, but I've only ever seen Fred Les at the end of the sentence "Peaches, 19, and her rocker boyfriend".
Take It Or Leave It?
Are you sure that's the right song, or maybe they played two Strokes songs....
Well it's Reptilia in the clip
nme.com made the mistake this morning, and DiS often lift stories from there, so maybe that's it.
ACHT
The only thing I lifted from NME.com was the setlist, as I couldn't make it down. I was going to change it as well when I saw the video. ACHT.
YES
A LIKELY STORY
So
Dev was just here.
Watching these videos.
Jeeps!
i see
dev is wearing a hat that disers deemed should be banned...
The best thing about these videos
is in the Reptilia performance, where we see the world's worst stagedive on 0:47, which is then immediately beaten by the even worse one on 0:56.
errm
why is it only the participating male musicians that warrant personal credit?
the assorted ipso facto girls apparently have names too. victoria smith played drums on every song. samantha valentine played bass. x
aww shit
i was doing nothing last night. could've been there.
bastard.
Vicky did well!
aww. she looked well happy. and quite drunk. haha
cuz i hayte womans
Especially ones that support Arsenal and are from da Norf.
Amazingly
I've just found out she's in Ipso Facto and I went to school with her...were in the same Music Tech class 'n all.
