London Garage to re-open in March
London venue the Garage is to re-open in March next year.
The building, ownership of which was picked up from Mean Fiddler by MAMA Group PLC in August, will be renovated to the tune of £1m by its new carers.
The capacity will shift to 620 in the main room, 150 in the ‘Upstairs at the Garage’ and 50 more in the ‘Mini Bar’. We don’t know what this is, but it’s where you’ll find us. Exclusive.
“Additionally,” says the press release, “an internal circulation staircase is being added which will enable customers to enjoy all 3 rooms as part of one ‘Club offering’.”
MAMA’s head of live operations promises big things for the Highbury, North London venue:
“The refurbished Garage will be better in every respect than its predecessor - better sound systems, new toilets, better sightlines and so on. The venue will also become fully digitally equipped, so that bands can produce top quality live recordings for on the spot release should they wish to do so.
"We are looking forward to presenting a broad range of new talent and established artists at The Garage from next March.”.

I hope
they still have punk rock karaoke
I look forward to this
I have many fond memories of the Garage, seen some brilliant bands there.
I hope
they have some decent air con now
They can't have
made it better as it was perfect, just the right degree of gloom and muck. I just hope its not too much worse.
^ this
Been there a couple of times, each time it has been insanely sweaty, even before anything remotely interesting was happening.
I agree
I loved the mess of black goo that would cover your shoes and lower limbs on a night out. And the fact that I could walk/stagger home afterwards.
that goo
was gank
i saw mono live there and their majesty was ruined by the amount of sweat and the place generally
people seem to be immediate arseholes there, too
but still, good memories there, BSP's new year's party 2004/05 was awesome
It was a dump
but it was a loveable dump and you knew exactly what you were going to get. Decent bands, insanely hot, drunk on red stripe, and filthy. Hopefully the refurb will be as much fun...
I have loads of good memories of the garage
McLusky being supported by Sum 41, the Ikara Colt / Parkinsons / Eighties Matchbox tour, Les Savy Fav and then people running away from Weird War... hope the new place isn't gaaaaaaaash.
5 years at the bus stop?
I get narked after five minutes. You're obviously a far more patient person than I am.
Best gig of my life was here
Forward Russia. It was the hotest day of the year. So sweaty. A boy got ran over outside beforehand. I met steve lemacq. Good times.
Favourite Garage gig?
Lift to Experience supported by Cat power, August 2001
Indie points coming my way.......
Guided By Voices, August 2001 as well :-)
they came over for Reading and just this one club show. they didn't have a record label over here at the time. there were people from all over Britain and Europe in the club. it was MENTAL from start to finish... good times! the Garage was GBV's club of choice in london actually...
