Ayers rocks: prog legend in Rough Trade record signing
British psychedelic pioneer Kevin Ayers will be signing copies of his new album at Rough Trade in London this Tuesday (September 11).
Ayers, renowned for his work with jazzy prog-rockers Soft Machine, releases his first solo record in fifteen years, The Unfairground, today (September 10).
Among a stellar cast of collaborators will be members of Teenage Fanclub, Architecture In Helsinki, Neutral Milk Hotel and Euros Childs.
Ayers will be signing copies of the record and posters at the Talbot Road Rough Trade store from 6pm tomorrow evening.

If only this was the 'east' one...and for a moment I thought Rough Trade the label had signed Kevin Ayers. That would have been cool
Kevin Ayers is AMAZING
dunno about this new album malarkey. Just another pointless "comeback" innit

probably, but I do like the idea that a fifty something sixties progger COULD make a great record still...
I think the main problem with older guys making records now is that they use the most recent gear. Musicians over a certain age should be forced to play everything themselves, onto an eight track reel to reel
yup
they tend to embrace modern technology a bit too much. plus:
Session Drummers. Not good.
Gated Reverb on session drummer. Not good
recording the old fashioned way
couldn't agree more and Ayers would say the same -- ok he didn't record on 8 track but on 2 inch 24 track tape and not one digital sound (except for the wyattron) -- all vintage gear.
