Manatees London DiS date: full bill confirmed
Next month's DiS-promoted headline show by frankly awesome Carlisle-based trio Manatees is now complete. Done and also dusted. Fin. All that's left to do now is for us to ask you, nicely, to buy tickets. Aw, g'wan.
To repeat some previously reported facts of this matter, and add some fresh propaganda, the line-up:
Manatees (MySpace)
From Carlisle, this earth-shuddering trio craft exquisite slabs of white-noise-saturated metallic post-rock from a simple-as set-up of drums, guitar and bass. Comparisons in the press to date fluctuate from progressive-rockers old – King Crimson, for example – to contemporary quasi-instrumetallers like Isis and Neurosis via the bludgeoning majesty of Swans. We’ve already had them headline one London show for us this year – back at February’s DiScover Club, where they left the entire room breathless ‘til the tumultuous end applause – and the band’s live sets are becoming the stuff of legend. Someone needs to book this band for an arena, soon, providing they’ve enough insurance to cover its inevitable collapse.

November Coming Fire (MySpace)
Already a firm fixture on the hardcore/punk domestic tour circuit, with shows with the likes of Converge, Gallows, Pelican and Dillinger Escape Plan beneath their belts, this quartet enjoys both a loyal following and the kind of creative spark in their compositions that lifts them up and out of the heard-it-before mire. Aggressive yet possessing a spacious restraint that allows the subtleties in their material to shine through, November Coming Fire are sure to surprise more than a few seen-the-name sorts with the release of their next album: we’ve been told it’s “crushing… like Cursed, sort of…”. Which earns a double thumbs up here.
Zettasaur (MySpace)
Fighting out of the Brighton corner, this itchy-punk four-piece are sure to get fans of Ten Grand, Charlottefield, Drive Like Jehu and Optimist Club hot under their collars. Should that mean nothing, think good punk rock, lo-fi’ed and furious, with a little quirkiness tossed into the mix just to mess with the meatheads. Their MySpace tracks are currently enjoying heavy rotation (rotation, rotation) at the DiSopolis. What makes us even more excited is that said tracks are a little old – we’re literally (okay, not literally, but still) champing at the bit with excitement regarding what they’re presently rocking to the tune of.
Down I Go (pictured; MySpace)
London's finest (only?) purveyors of what can only be called 'disastercore' (and now 'robotcore'!) have supported Manatees at both of the Carlisle trio's past London shows, so it seemed rather churlish of us to book another gig without the fiery jerk-rocking four-piece. Think Faith No More mangling The Blood Brothers in some Terminator machinery. Close, but not quite close enough. Down I Go will make you laugh, cry, dance and sing. They might even try to take you home with them. That's your sole warning.
