Re-hash pipe: Weezer back in the studio
- Artists:
- Weezer »
Given that no-one ever believed that Weezer would actually be halting work forever (despite word to the contrary), it comes as no great surprise that mainman and benign ruler Rivers Cuomo has revealed work on album no.6 is underway.
Said Rivers on his website: “Weezer is just polishing up a batch of songs for a recording session that is going to start at the beginning of July. This will be the final recording session for our 6th album which we aim to put out in the first half of 2008. We hope you are all having good times.”
Rumours in our head claim that it will be a hell of a lot better than the last album, and hopefully better than the one previous too.
In fact, DiS was so uninspired by their last two album releases, we managed to neglect to review them at all. Telling.

Muse discuss U2 US tour, The Resistance + more
Nice pun
SRSLY
maladroit
is ace!
that Rivers demo going around is actually really really REALLY good.
a I thought Maladroit wasn't that bad. Make Believe on the other hand...
Hopefully they'll tour again! Such a good live band
Hot damn!
Wasn't expecting that! I hope it has less better lyrics than Make Believe. And no 'here's your lead single' type Beverly Hills song...
still haven't heard 'Make Believe'
is it worth getting cheap?
..
Do you think it'll have Island in the Sun as a bonus track?
Fuck
I hate Weezer. EVERYONE else in the world likes them though, so I guess I stand alone.
probably.
Or a remix of it.
Yeah
They have to have Island in the Sun on everything they release now.
Fingers crossed for a classic 'return to form' eh?
no
the sensible people love the first two albums, quite like the third and hate the other shite.
let's hope it's good!
Make Believe was pretty dire although Maladroit was pretty good and Green was awesome, so I've not given up hope. And I'd love to see them live sometime.
I like them so much
that I don't really care that the last three albums have been patchy. I'd put 'Make Believe' on a par with 'Green' maybe, and 'Maladroit' isn't terrible...just quite weird in some ways. At their worst they're still better than 99% of the other shit that is realised. fact.
love the first two
quite like the 3rd and 4th...
Make Believe... yeah, granted.
Which
demo is this?
this is true
^^^
Dear Rivers
Please stop putting a "guitar solo that mimics the vocal melody" in every song.
P.S. Pinkerton is awesome.
Make Believe was not dire!
I have high hopes for this
he only did that on the Green album
One out of five albums. FACT.
Fair enough...
Still, I think it's legitimate to remind him of this misdemeanour.
He acknowledged
during the making of 'Maladroit' that he completely fucked up the guitar solos on 'Green.' I think, basically, after the hiatus he was so worried about the album not selling that he didn't want to do anything really experimental. Hence, bland vocal line guitar solos, every song virtually the same tempo, no break-downs, verse-chorus-verse, etc. It's amazing that 'Green' is still a really good album, despite the fact it is so samey. whammy.
I love Weezer
People who don't love Weezer are wrong. Although not as wrong as Weezer fans that won't shut up about Pinkerton or Songs From The Black Hole...
But...
Pinkerton is great, non?
i am wrong
i hate weezer
hmmm
I only started listening to Pinkerton properly this week. I loves it, especially Scorcho.
I've never tried Maladroit or Make Believe though.
Not got high hopes for #6 either.
that
solo = vocal melody thing was very offputting on Green but I still quite enjoy the album.
:(
JUST STOP ALREADY!
Though, yes that Pig demo is really quite nice.
That's why
the solo on 'Take Control' on Maladroit is my favourite guitar solo EVER.
I really can't understand why everyone hates Maladroit either, I think it's a great record.
Now featuring...
Elton John
Dale Winton
Him from Steps
John Barrowman
...and 10 others!
Probably not likely to be great
The albums have been getting steadily weaker since Pinkerton.
That said, Make Believe deserved better than that stupid Pitchfork review of it. Even that album had its moments (Hold Me, My Best Friend)
Weezer suck balls
i'd like them to fuck off
thats what
they all said make believe would be
it totally wasn't
BEVERLY HILLS, ROLLING LIKE A CELEBRITY
Actually, bit of revisionism, I think everything they've ever recorded is amazing.
Just some bits (Pinkerton, Blue, b-sides) are a better sort of amazingness than other stuff (Maladroit, Make Believe).
On their day, as in when Rivers gives a fuck, they can be an incredible live band as well
please
... not rick rubin... not rick rubin... bring back ocasek, or make pinkerton 2 or something.//.//.
Wow
That's a great song!
Me too.
They disgust me.
Hey
It's not that bad - Damage In Your Heart is very good especially. I blame Rubin's production sheen anyway - it doesn't suit them.
