The Verve are reuniting for a tour in November.
The original line-up of Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Sailsbury have been working on new material in the studio last week, and are set to complete their comeback album after taking a summer break.
The legendary Wigan shoegazers-turned-soul survivors split in 1999 after the disintegration of Ashcroft and McCabe’s fiery relationship.
In a statement, the band said they were "getting back together for the joy of the music."
The autumn dates are as follows:
November
2 Glasgow Academy
3 Glasgow Academy
5 Blackpool Empress Ballroom
6 Blackpool Empress Ballroom
8 London Roundhouse
9 London Roundhouse
Tickets will go on sale on July 6.

A new Verve album on the way
Can't wait.
you just KNOW
it's gonna be short lived and shite.
I dunno...
there's no way McCabe would have rejoined if it was going to be like 1997 all over again, with Ashcroft reducing the others to Just Another Backing Band. This is the ORIGINAL line-up, the one that made 'A Storm In Heaven' and 'A Northern Soul', NOT the line-up that recorded 'Urban Hymns', so it could actually be fantastic.
If you don't believe me, watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuRgAITJhIQ
and then this:
I don't know why...
but this depresses me. Maybe it's cos they could be amazing. But they won't be.
And the whole Verve thing migrated, didn't it. When were they ever meant to be a 'band of the people'? playing shows in fields in Wigan.
I want them to be psychedelic warriors from venus again. THAT Won't happen.
The original fans are still spinning in their Gravity Graves...
SWEET JESUS!
No.
Someone needs money.
That first video
is fucking amazing.
Hope this isn't dissapointed, but today I'm happy!
I don't know about that
Ashcroft is loaded. And Mccabe was a virtual recluse in France untill recently so he doesn't need the limelight.
That's what worries me!
I saw them at V98 and it was heartbreaking - no McCabe, and their entire pre-Urban Hymns output was represented by two songs ('See You In The Next One' and 'History', which was a complete load of fucking shit in the first place).
The question that's bugging me is: do I risk the heartbreak again? I've dreamed of seeing that original line-up onstage for over a decade now, but if they suck I'll have to burn things. Starting with Ashcroft's face.
I fucking knew this would happen
arse off you annoying bumheads
mixed really
i love early Verve, but the gigs are going to be full of beery football hooligans waiting for The Drugs Don't work and Ashcroft's "genius".
Whereas I want to hear 10 minute jams with Nick Mccabe.
ay
couldn't agree more. and 'annoying bumheads' is about as much as anyone needs to say about the verve.
I just remember
what an insufferably arrogant prick Richard Ashcroft was at the height of The Verve's fame. Still, every band's reforming these days...
YAY
I wanna go!!!
Just had a look on there,
what software do you need to run those .torrent files?
Aaaaaargh!
Trying to work out that .torrent thing is a fucking nightmare! Think I'll stick to YouTube...
^
i absolutely adore the verve. i'll quite happily put up with utter utter shite to hear them play live.
i'm pretty sure i will be at the london gigs.
desperate.
lets wait and see its joy of music or money.
Simon Tong -
2nd choice of guitarist to the stars.
woah.
shit, that is spooky. i was thinking about how great a northern soul was the other day and then i read this news, fantastic! i bet it will be fantastic, ashcroft always needed the inspiration of the band with him, solo, bar one song, he was crap.
LONG LIVE THE VERVE.
I dunno
i really dunno about this, it could be amazing but then again it could be shite. depends if dicky's ego gets in the way. last time i saw the verve was january '97 at brixton. it was amazing. mind you i was stoned off me tits at the time. :)
This man
speaks the truth
Ashcroft's solo material is bloody awful.
The guy has gone from writing 'I stand accused/ just like you/ of being born without a silver spoon' to writing shit like 'Money To Burn' about how loaded he is.
