Green Day to star in Simpsons movie

Green Day will make guest cameo appearances in the new Simpsons movie, creator Matt Groening has revealed.

Groening personally drafted the Bush-baiting punks in for the scene, which features sleazy bartender Moe Sizzlac hurling abuse at the band, two minutes from the end of the film.

Groening told MTV: "Green Day is in the movie — I will publicly acknowledge that Green Day are in the movie.

"They're really good sports and I think we both honor them and 'Simpson'-ize them. You can take that however you want. They're really nice guys."

Talking about the scene, he said: "I know that Moe yells out obnoxious stuff to Green Day while they're performing. That I remember."

The band join a long list of musicians to have been immortalised in the show, including The White Stripes, U2, Britney Spears and Sonic Youth.

The Simpsons Movie hits cinemas in July.
