Arctic Monkeys: "English radio is terrible"

Well, they might have a point.
Ahead of the release of their new single 'Brianstorm' - out April 16 and available to download now - Arctic Monkeys have told popular red-top rag The Sun that domestic radio is pretty rubbish.
Guitarist Jamie Cook commented: "English radio is terrible, and Radio 1 plays a lot of crap music. I realised that the other morning when I had the radio going."
Singer Alex Turner added that he hates "all those Pop Idol singers". Us too Alex, us too. He doesn't like Mark Ronson much, either.
Mr Ronson's thoughts on Arctic Monkey's Favourite Worst Nightmare, their new album out on April 23, are currently unavailable.

and, yeah most of mainstream radio is crap BUT they do have some good shows on them and there are stations that are trying something different (e.g. Resonance fm) so..... fuckwit.

Radio show...
I used to like Steve Lamacq's evening session, but the only radio I really listen to these days are the downloads of 'The Opie and Anthony' show which is broadcast from New York. No music on the show though; its all just chat.

I quite like Radio 1 in the evenings...
I don't really have access to XFM or anything...and I can't be bothered to trawl the internet for good stations...

I know
it's an obvious thing for them to say but maybe it'll prompt some inbred orange shirt-wearing dunt in Swindon to actually stop and think..'ang on a minute you may have a point there'. Inasmuch I reckon any high-profile slagging of mainstream media is a clear winner.

He's very right about Mark Ronson though
or at least about his Smiths cover. He's even shortened the bloody title.
There are certain songs that shouldn't be touched by anyone else, they'll never achieve anything close to the original. Most of The Smiths output would be included in that.
The only bright side is that it may turn more people on to The Smiths. But seeing as anyone who ever mentions the song either downplays, or doesn't even mention that it's a cover, it's doubtful.

& XFM UK (which is okay)
No-one takes the Sun
seriously.
It has Breasts on the third page for gods sake.
the Express and Mail are incontrovertibly worse.
Radio 1's playlist
has been the best for years at the moment.
I never listen to the radio
It depresses me hideously. I agree with the Arctics on this one. Even when the radio does play good stuff, it's the attitude with which it's played that irritates me.

There's an Arctic Monkeys live session on Radio 1 soon. The morning show bloke was creaming himself over it on today's show.
So that's definitely proof of crap music being played on Radio 1.
